An adult in the room! Hooray! This is how Stone and Silas see it, while the armchair QBs cry and cry!!!
I wonder how much Green was Tilman's pick over what Stone was recommending. Green was definitely the sexy pick and brings more attention (and possible sales) to the Rockets in spite of facing another year of tanking. There's no telling at this point whether he will be a star on this team or a bust this early in his career, but the factors that went into picking Green seem less about immediate contribution and more about buzz and hype.
Do you even watch the games? Yes Green creates amazing separation for his off the dribble jump shots.
I don't think we know what Tilman and/or Stone prioritized on their "must haves" list when they made their selection. If they saw a 19 year old shooting guard with only G-League experience as their best hope for "immediate contribution" then I have to really question their decision-making process. Fortunately I don't think they were placing all of their hopes on Green coming in and setting the league on fire. Historical evidence has pointed to shooting guards needing 2-3 years to develop; rarely does one come in and drop 20 points per night as a rookie..at least not in today's NBA.
He creates separation in order to brick shots. It's something he might develop one day, but it's not a move he has developed into something that works at an NBA level. I have an amazing behind the back half court shot....doesn't go in, but I create amazing separation with it.
Not on drives to the rim - he has yet to learn how to change speeds and directions. But I did see an attempted Euro step yesterday - so PROGRESS!! DD
Augustin plays as much defense as Green. And he is a shoot first PG who is actually most efficient in catch and shoot. Bad idea.
KPJ averaged 16/6 last season as first time PG. The better question is what has changed so he is averaging 13/5 now? Although his defense has improved to close to his Cavs form when he was their best perimeter defender as a rookie.
FYI, everyone on Rockets bench was displaying bad body behavior AND/OR talking shet. Including Silas. No one likes losing this much. Especially professional athletes with pride. That you are making this into a negative is indicative of loser mentality. We ALL should be angry that every game is a given loss.
It does really annoy me that Beal is Green's comp yet we're not playing the player who played with Beal for years whilst he became a star (seems like a good fit.) I wouldn't mind seeing what KPJ was like playing in the position he played before we started the experiment before we give up on him. It seems stupid that it doesn't even appear to be in consideration and it's all "starting PG or bust." I genuinely wonder if both guys wouldn't be doing a lot better with Wall on the court, Sengun too.
Kobe was horrible his first year as well and had to come off the bench. But he busted his tail all the way to the Hall of Fame. Jalen Green will be lucky to be half of what Kobe was. They should consider it with Green as well. Part of his problem is that he's just too damn weak to finish in traffic. He needs to live in the weight room in the off-season. Let him take baby steps & earn his minutes. Let him come off the bench. It should build some determination. If it doesn't then the Rockets have made a huge mistake. KPJ is a wing who may have to be shipped out for a real PG. He's not a PG period, he fits if you want to play him as a wing (that's fine but you still need a lead guard) otherwise the Rockets are wasting their time. I'm not a fan of Silas who can't seem to manage this chaos. These guys are just playing waaay too undisciplined and borders on street ball. They may need a firmer hand to speed up these young guys development, because playin this way is teaching too many bad habits. You are grading Green harsh but fair (as you should for a number 2 overall pick). You're not wrong with a ton of the things you're saying because it does remind me of those Francis/Cat days. (with Green & KPJ)
Shouldn't get rid of him.. But let his ass know that in 2 years, he'll be in Eric Gordon spot... Don't bullshit him... He thinks he's a starting caliber point guard because the dumbass coaches make him believe it... I'd rather have his bad attitude about it now than down the line when they take him out the starting 5 when a real point general becomes available... Then it will be a bigger problem
I find it difficult to believe that KPJ is our starting point guard. The kid drives me crazy. Someone, anyone on the coaching staff, if Silas doesn't want to (?) needs to sit him down and have a serious talk with the guy. Stick a pin in him and let some air out. Do something. Maybe it's a deliberate strategy by the organization to insure horrific loses so we can get another top pick. If it is, I wish they'd drop us a clue. Hell, could be that starting Porter, Jr. is the clue. It's still driving me crazy. Some consideration should be given to the mental health of the fans of the Rockets, in my humble opinion. Is that too much to ask?
If this season is about us developing our rookies why are they going ot the G League. Im just confused this is not what I expected this season at all. I thought we would have a team full of youngsters with nothing to lose but it just looks like vets who have regressed and 2 rookies get to play.
One rookie mistake I see is he turns the burners on from a mile away and help defenders get a hand on the ball. He needs to use his burst speed on short distances and not from full-court.
Youre not developing much the way we play. Youre also not gonna develop anyone sitting them on the bench and playing them out of position.
