Um 2018 Astros would like to have a word... top form Verlander and Keuchel... and ascendent Cole and McCullers plus CFM.

    Or 2005 Astros of Oswalt-Pettitte-Clemens-Wandy-Backe

Before my time, but 1980- Nolan Ryan-JR Richard (before the stroke)-Joe Niekro. Not sure who the other two starters were but that's a top 3 about as good as any.

Houston Astros: Justin Verlander to throw on Monday

Monday is going to be a very important day for Justin Verlander. Depending on how things go, he may accept the Qualifying Offer from the Houston Astros.

Justin Verlander is throwing tmrw morning with several teams expected to be in attendance at Cressey's Sports Performance. Verlander, who was extended a qualifying offer by Houston, has until Nov. 17 to decide whether to accept it. Could opt to seek a longer deal.

If he's ready to pitch with no restrictions starting opening day, he'll decline the QO.

If he still wants more rehab time to ease into the rest of the season, he'll take the QO.

Given that all players after TJ surgery have a transition/gap year where there is still somewhat of a limit... signs are pointing towards him taking the QO.

I'd love to have JV back for another year or two. Even if not 100%

He should take the QO no matter what. Unless they change it in the CBA, we've always seen the market be hard on those players that have them attached. It is just so much risk for a team to give up that amount of money plus a draft pick.

What does an innings limit look like for an old dude like jv coming back from tj?

Man. We could have used that in the WS.

Is a scenario where Verlander comes back...to be a dominant closer like Smoltz did? Just curious.

Verlander isn't much of a closer. He normally gives up most of his runs in the first inning.

Son of a biscuit! Verlander made $30+ million this season and is throwing mid 90's... and we trotted out baby-rocking, salsa-stepping Luis Garcia on 3 days rest to start Game 6 of the World Series?!

Bummer that he is throwing that hard now but somehow not able to contribute anything in the World Series a week ago.

I'm pretty sure that Crane and company told him to stay home so they could collect the insurance. I'm guessing that insurance covered 75 percent of his salary so it would have cost the Astros up to 24 mill bucks to trot him out there for 5-7 innings.

Notice the wording. He reached 95. What did he maintain?

I’m not a expert but throwing 25 pitches in a controlled environment is very different than a game situation. Throwing a fastball hard is also different than throwing a competitive slider or curve.
