100 percent right on. This series of events points out so many current problems and questions relating to American culture and values: parenting, gun culture and gun control, policing and accountability, civil unrest and protesting. Very few leaders are willing to call out each of these as problems, whereas all too many are willing to use them to divide and magnify identity politics.
Quoted for The Truth. The same LEOs if they saw Rittenhouse driving around the neighborhood would give serious thought to pulling hm over to do a license check to make he was not under aged, taking his parent's car out for a joy ride.
The problem with this case and many others is that it is too caught up in ideological and cultural divides. Too often our politics are caught up in zero sum game that any acknowledgement of something that may seem to benefit one side is at the cost of the other. Looking at the specifics of the situation from a self-defense standpoint I can see very evidence that this isn't murder and an appropriate use of force. That doesn't mean condoning or accepting that Rittenhouse should be there or that BLM is a terrorist organization or any of the other stuff being loaded on Rittenhouse. He's not a hero, he's a dumb kid who put himself in danger and two people are dead because of it.
There’s a lot to process with Rittenhouse, but it also reminds me of recent stats showing that new college admits are increasingly female … I think it is up to 55 percent now. Add in studies that show women are more likely to consider education, stability and earning potential in choosing a mate. One demographic that this country needs to worry about the most is …. Non college educated white males. Falling behind in education and job prospects Gun culture White nationalism and maybe pile on problems with finding companionship? Adolescence is hard enough already. Pile on any of the foregoing and the odds of a bad outcome increase. Pile on multiple items like this and what is being created?
From what we've seen on the videos .... that's very unlikely. In the first video , we see Rosenbaum being argumentative and telling people shoot me MFers & while Rittenhouse is present , he's not engaging him .... and never threatened him or raised his weapon. There was at least one witness who stated that Rosenbaum made statements that if he caught them alone he would kill them. In the next video , we see Rittenhouse fleeing Rosenbaum who throws something at him and then follows him between the cars and off camera .... and that's when two sets of shots are fired & we see Rittenhouse come out and get on his phone , then started heading in the direction that put him in proximity with the others .... towards the police. I think some basic forensic evidence would give us more information on what happened off camera - how close was he when Rittenhouse fired , muzzle flash , powder burns , the actual spread of the powder on Rosenbaum , if any , did he actually grab the weapon , if so that should be easily established with fingerprints from the weapon itself.
I think this narrative is vastly over played .... I know a whole lot of people from all over the country and I don't know a single "white nationalist" or anyone who claims to identify as such. Are they out there ? Absolutely but I believe they are so few that they are .... inconsequential
What do you consider a white nationalist? For example, would you consider a number of folks in the Capitol on January 6 were white nationalists?
Individuals who belong to or support militant white supremacy groups. Do I think there were some at Jan6 ? Absolutely but not in any significant percentage to the total. I believe the vast majority of those who showed up for Jan6 were simply ill informed and truly bought into the idea that the election was stolen / rigged , to them Jan6 was their Boston Tea Party moment. Look what the media had been feeding them in the days leading up to that event .....
None of this refutes the fact that he shot people while they were running away and why the hell are you including throwing a plastic bag as threatening behavior?
He shot people running away from him, and not people chasing after him? Can you link to a report or video that shows this? All physical contact during a chase should be considered when trying to assess whether he felt his life was under threat.
You can find the video yourself nobody was contacting him when he shot, once he brandished the gun they stopped Not gonna get caught up in your bullshit, you actually think throwing a plastic bag should be considered a threat to life and limb.
Strange that this detail would be missing in the reporting of the case. Let’s see if the prosecution brings it up. It’s no different than being shoved in the back by someone chasing you down. Is the shove by itself a threat to one’s life? Obviously not. But you can’t ignore the effect that shove might have on someone’s state of mind on top of the fact that some protesters were themselves armed and a gun shot was fired while the defendant was being chased down.
And... (1)*if* he didn't illegally buy the assault rifle, and (2) then make the decision to take the assault rifle into a riot area,, then (1) he would not have been physically attacked and (2) three people would not have been shot and two people would not be dead.
This should lead him to stupidity jail. But he will be aquitted of murder and not go to real jail*. *Does not include possible prison sentence for illegal purchase of firearm. Also, there were a lot of guns out there. Note to self - don't go to protests unless you're strapped and wearing kevlar.
I'd assume so .... Get to the point. A quick google of the proud boys suggests they are just as I said , insignificant in number when compared to the whole ... between "several hundred" to 6000 nation wide. Even if there are a hundred similar thinking groups of similar size ..... 600,000 is an insignificant number to 330,000,000 which equates to about one tenth of one percent 0r 0.001% of the population. They would be outnumbered by illegal aliens 50/1 just for reference.
Running Away ? Did we watch the same video or am I crazy ? We can't see exactly what happened to Rosenbaum but I believe its quite clear who the aggressor was - Rosenbaum. He chased Rittenhouse down. Its quite clear that Skateboard guy (I forget his name) was gripping Rittenhouse weapon when he fired , after striking him twice with the skateboard. Its also quite clear that the next guy was shot while facing him - also while pointing a weapon at Rittenhouse. So who did he shoot while they were running away ? was there another victim ?
The number was significant enough to have a meaningful and leading presence at the insurrection. Or are we calling that just tourism? It’s also enough for what happened in Charlottesville. Our own federal government considers white nationalism to be the strongest domestic terror threat. But you don’t think it’s a problem. Back to my original point. Non college educated white males are a demographic that we should be concerned about. Behind on education. Poor job prospects. Potentially poor prospects finding mates, particularly among college educated women. Gun culture. White Nationalism.
Just as in the george zimmerman case, there are laws on the books (and laws not on the books) that allow for and even encourage senseless and avoidable violence and murder. He will be acquitted of murder, become a hero to the right wing, and financially benefit from shooting three people and killing two. And yes, there are too many guns out there. This case will only encourage more.
