I'd say that's probably more likely.... and more appropriate... than the Rangers becoming big spenders. Wasn't that long ago that they signed Robinson Cano to the 10 year obscene deal that Correa is looking for.
Dodgers sign Andrew Heaney. Nice upside play, although I’m hoping the Astros end up frying bigger fish than Heaney this offseason. To me Heaney getting >$8M would bode well if Houston wants to shed Odorizzi’s contract. I think this is evidence they don’t expect Bauer back, but they also could move David Price.
This is extremely surprising. I’ll believe it when I see it. Related to the CBA, I really hope age-based free agency makes in the deal as I think it would be really good for the game. We would see the most exciting young players brought up as soon as they’re able to contribute and worked in slowly if needed. I think it’ll end up at 28.5 instead of the 29.5 mlb is proposing. But assuming that’s the case, we would very likely see Korey Lee, Pedro Leon, and Hunter Brown pretty early next season.
Best of both worlds would be age or service time, whichever comes first. I'd imagine the PA would be all over that as opposed to an age system that punishes everyone who makes the majors before turning 22.
I have suggested in the past that free agency should be determined similar to how Rule 5 eligibility is decided. E.g., players signed/drafted at 18 or younger would become free agents in the 10th offseason after they were drafted, players drafted at 19+ would be free agents in the 9th offseason.
