Silas will ruin KPJ's career. People are going to think he's a scrub but really he's just being forced into the wrong role.

Me too. We all saw that block coming though. EG driving to the basket already disappointed me and for Tate to be taking the last shot attempt with Jokic right in front him is just as inept as you can get. Undersized vs NBA size... JV vs Varsity. Silas is definitely assistant level.

Christian Wood is not the kind of player who gets major minutes on a winning team. I'm ok with keeping him this year, but actually wouldn't mind if he was traded either. I worry about his bad habits rubbing off on our young guys considering he's one of our "vets".

I spent the 4th quarter zeroing in on his play closely.

On offense he doesn't actually set useful screens. He's kind of like late-prime Dwight in that way. He'll go through the motions of setting a pick when what he really wants is to roll and call for the ball. I'm watching Tate, Green and Porter fight through screens set by the Nuggets and noticing that none of his picks have the same effect. He can shoot from the perimeter and he's a pretty good finisher inside one-on-one, I'll give him that. But he rarely passes out when the help comes and instead forces either a bad shot or fumbles the ball into a turnover. The play in the 4th where he had the mismatch against one of the smaller Nuggets and forced his way into a crowd of 4 defenders really pissed me off. All he had to do was pass to any of 3 wide open players to keep the offense moving but instead he keeps it and fumbles the ball.

On defense he gets lost just as much as our 19 year old rookies. He gave up two wide open corner threes in the 4th just not being close enough to his man. He wasn't actively doubling Jokic, he was just kind of in no-mans land about 15 feet from the basket. Once is bad enough but twice is absolutely unforgivable. And he NEVER runs back hard on D. I've seem multiple times where our base defense is ****ed because a guard has to pick up his man. Our opponents get to start their half court offense with a mismatch without even having to run any action. He gets a lot of rebounds but it doesn't feel impactful. Like all of his rebounds were coming his way anyways. I can't really seem to recall any times where he won a rebounding battle with another player.

That last sequence really pissed me off. We had 9 seconds to go and he decides to bring the ball up himself. There are 3 Nuggets swiping at the ball near mid court. I'm thinking he'll find one of our guards or call timeout. Nope. He picks up his dribble wasting precious time and Eric Gordon bails him out by coming to the ball. By this point it's just a broken play and a scramble that we eventually lose.

Which brings me to my next point...

I worry that Coach Silas isn't the right guy for this group. We need a guy who will teach all of our youngsters the fundamentals and instill the right habits. We aren't going to win many games this year. That's fine. We're young and inexperienced. But jeez. Our effort is crap a lot of times and we don't do any of the little things that don't require talent/sill/experience like box-out, get back on D, and play hard consistently. Coach seems always call timeouts too late and puts insane lineups on the court together. I want to see Coach take guys out of the game when they don't get back on D. Or when they make careless turnovers. This group needs to be taught during the games as much as in practice. There isn't anybody on this team so established that they can't benched for not playing the right way.

AND WHY THE HECK DIDN'T OUR COACH CALL A TIMEOUT TO SET UP A PLAY DURING THAT LAST POSSESSION?!?!?

    </end rant>

Stop b****ING about that last play, my GAWD we got a layup, if Tate goes up with his right hand, he has a shot....

The game was lost because neither Green nor KPj can shoot consistently - and at the FT line where we miss far too much.

This game was the 5th of a long road trip and it was on a back to back, I was proud of how we competed......and saw major growth.....

    Theis was amazing.

We lost......guess what....???? Who cares, we are tanking.

Hopefully we can win 7 games. Don’t want to have the record.

He is right, he should get the ball a helluva lot more - he is our most consistent offensive player.

He wants the ball he needs to take position in the paint. Just like Sengun does. He doesn't always have to take 3's and go off the dribble. The court is not that big. Him taking off the dibble defeats having him at the stretch 4 or 5. Clutters the wings for our real guards. He should only take it off the dribble if he has to pump fake which he does too much already. We'll never win if they don't learn how to shoot up and over people. So far Jalen Green is the only to have shown that ability.

I'm ok with it. The problem is when he first got here we it seems like we kind of indulged his baby Harden tendencies and now he thinks that who he should model his whole game after which has led to some bad habits. He's not the shooter James is and likely will never be. He definitely doesn't have the court vision, which is fine. He can be an effective "lead guard" a la Jamal Murray, Goran Dragic, Spencer Dinwiddie, Tony Parker etc. I don't mean that he needs to necessarily play like any of those guys I just mean he should focus on scoring without being selfish. All he has to do is beat his own man and (a) get to his preferred spot(s) or (b) make the simple pass when the defense helps. He doesn't need to beat the whole defense and be responsible for every score/assist. Harden and AI are probably the only primary scorers who could play like that effectively; and even Iverson's effectiveness was meh (besides the finals year when every other teammate was an all-defense caliber defender).

Al-P actually opens up the "lead scoring guard" archetype for both KPJ and Jalen so long as they don't try to do too much and use Sengun as a release valve. He is actually the guy I trust to make the right pass against a scrambling defense.

That is not his game, he is a PnR player, who slips the screen and finishes very well. He is getting frustrated by watching our HORRIBLE starting backcourt jacking up brick after brick, Green and KPj are the ACME brothers......they just are not starting caliber NBA players yet.

If we were trying to win, they would not be playing much if at all - but we aren't.....so let em play, keep building those houses of bricks, learn that once they commit to playing DEFENSE it is the start of learning how to win.

Then they can work on their roles as becomming a real NBA player where the game slows down and their efficiency goes up.

Not a scrub but I do think he deals with too many rookies and young players at the same time.

Given that he has not coached a team before this one on his own.

1-3 pt losses are the hardest.
