Crazy. Leaving $22M on the table. Wow. Giants might wanna rebuild now. Wouldn’t mind Yaz on the Astros.
He just wants the same as all player, the most guaranteed money he can get. He had a great year so he might be looking at a 9 figure contract.
Smart move, and was a smart deal when he signed. Optimize earning potential before you get on the wrong side of 30. Smart move by the Reds as well... if they feel they're ready to contend, they re-sign him. If they're not ready to contend, they're not saddled with a high priced player who's turning 30 while they're still trying to build their team.
In thinking about 2022 season. assuming there is one, I was looking at the AL East and wondering how that division may play out. The 2021 standings. EAST * --Tampa Bay Rays.....100-62 y --Boston Red Sox......92-70 y --New York Yankees..92-70 e --Toronto Blue Jays..92-70 e --Baltimore Orioles..52-110 I am guessing the Red Sox take the division but no idea where the next 3 fall.
That’s my thinking too. Really good hitter, shaky defense but some position flexibility. Has seemingly always been on a bad team. How does his market compare to say Jorge Soler or Eddie Rosario? Castellanos has been more consistent, but I wouldn’t expect all of those guys to get length in years and big dollars.
Not picking up Miley's $10M option and instead waiving him is a very questionable move to me. Somebody would have traded for him at that price.
If I had to make a waaaaaay too early prediction: 1. Red Sox (93 wins) 2. Rays (91) 3. Jays (89) 4. Yankees (81) 5. Orioles (picking top 3)
The Reds GM claims he has tried to move Miley for weeks and there were no takers. I suspect some teams are uncertain how the market will play out so they are gun shy. Miley was a 6 WAR player in 2021 and while he doesn’t strike many out, he gets a lot of ground outs and seldom walks guys. His FIP was bad. I still agree with you, someone would have traded for Miley.
