Tired of not having legitimate bigs to defend against guys like Anthony Davis and DeAndre Ayton. What is it with the ownership/coaching/management of this team that year after year we look puny and small compared to whomever we are playing. Not officially “small ball” this year, but darn near close to it (with toothpick and short Centers). Who is it in this organization hates tall people so much that they’re willing to watch us get abused night after night after night?
My guess is Patrick Fertitta. He has this mentality, like Yolo, that recreational league 6'3" players can guard NBA 7'0" footers consistently. Wrong!!!! But Garuba will help around mid December after a G-league stint. Not big but strong and can leap.
We could have had Evan Mobley in the draft... but that would have meant passing on Jalen Green, who is filling up the cup at a rate of 35% of his shots.
No! Hell No! Guruba is not big enough. The Rockets need a 7'0 ft upfront. These 6'8 - 6'9 guys, i.e, Garuba, Sengun, KMJ are not big enough! They need to take a flyer on Bol Bol
Yeah this team is really missing a 50% perimeter 7 footer who shoots 20% from 3 and has the luxury of being hidden on his roster. Having him here as the showcase player would have gone great
Dudes really acting like this team is going to the playoffs if we add a true big lol, it’s like you guys keep forgetting that this is basically a throw away season and that this team is rebuilding. Plus the Rockets need a real point guard more than anything. If they can stop turning the damn ball over at such an alarming rate it won’t even matter that they don’t have a 7 footer because they wouldn’t be giving their opponents so many extra possessions to score. The Rockets will have more than one first round pick and will likely be at the top of the lottery again which would put them in position to potentially draft one of the better big men this upcoming draft. Now we should add another big yes, only because we only have 3 but I don’t believe that will turn this team around and I honestly feel it’s kind of pointless to go after any big unless it’s a true upgrade or a guy who fits the timeline of the team. We may aswell keep give most of those minutes to Sengün and Wood and let them make the most of it
We definitely need a young big to add to the young core. Sengun and Garuba are undersized bigs. More PFs than Cs. Would be great to have a young 7-footer that is coming along with the rest of the roster, but hopefully the right player is available next draft.
So Sengun is too small to guard Centers? So that just makes him a PF with little athleticism and a meh jumper that can pass and has post moves? Why all the hype then?
Perhaps the title should be Rockets lack true experience and/or talent? I don't think one needs to be a 7' to defend most centers nowadays. AD, Embiid, Jokic...there's a reason why they're MVP caliber players because you really can't defend/stop them.
Yea people on this board definitely don’t take into account that he’s in a much better situation in Cleveland than would have been if he played on this squad. He would be around even less talent than he’s around now and would honestly be asked to do more. In Cleveland he has 2 point guards that are actually point guards and were lottery picks and playing next to several other 7 footers compared to if he was on this team with no real point guards and he would be the only 7 footer
Wasn't just Ayton. After he sat for rest (and foul troubles), McGee stepped up. Few times he grabbed the rebound right over our guys. If Al-p and Wood are starters of front court last game but still needed a tall front court backup guy. Theis was out and there was no situational big. Personally would have nice to see Garuba get some burn. Even if he's shorter but we didn't have anyone else. That's the issue. Doing more Wood fronting Ayton wasn't going to cut it. Some of the previous games like Wolves it wasn't just their lead big like Kat was having good nights but their backup bigs too.
When you’re one of two players that can actually defend (Tate and Sengun) on the team, you get caught out of position making up for other very poor defenders (Green, Wood). Yes Sengun didn’t have the best night, but he still offers a lot on his bad nights. That’s the reason for hype.
we had a legit big. His name was Clint Capela. He was one of the very few high-level players we drafted and developed over the last 15 yrs. He plays for the Hawks now. We traded him under the assumption that we could win a championship with small ball. It didn’t work out well
Rockets lack a lot of things.... it's not called a rebuild because we're becoming championship contenders after one great draft haul. Oh and Spoiler says hi!
