I can tell you why. Youth baseball is extremely expensive. I have three kids, all three of whom have played or play little league. The combined costs of baseball annually is around $600-$800, between league fees, equipment, training etc.

Youth basketball is effectively free; in fact, youth basketball is heavily subsidized by Nike, Adidas, Gatorade, and the NBA. NFL does the same for youth football.

Baseball doesn't do that in the US; they do subsidize leagues overseas, however.

Ha! My late FIL told me the same story about the string theory every time I went to his house.

I remember how sad he was when the Astros lost in 2005. He never got a chance to seem them win it all in 2017.

Man I miss him.
