Tilman has to sell like 500000 steaks for us to keep some free agents

All Elon has to do is just wake up and he can pay for any luxury tax as long as it's not going to Bernie Sanders

Speaking of open source accounting, does TSLA not have a history of shady accounting practices? @saitou

I didn't follow that story, but I recall tsla's solarcity deal to be extremely shady and from layman perspective seemed borderline criminal. It kept me away from investing before the stock split. I should've known better - $ buys innocence.

We can barely take care of this planet and people think we're going to terraform another? Just to do what? Fill it with more starving people?

I agree Musk can be a prick and is not sociable but I have no problem with his offer nor his request that the program shows it's accounting. If Musk is making the offer why shouldn't he as a big donor ask to see how that money will be spent?

Now if the World Food Program does open it's book and Musk doesn't donate that is certainly worth criticism but just asking to see the accounting before donating doesn't seem like a big issue for me.

Of course, you should demand that your contribution is not wasted. Musk's request for transparency and open source accounting is already ' sure, please do it.'

The problem is Musk took an obviously incorrect tweet (6B to solve world hunger) and assumed it was true (reminder - even the smartest guy easily fails for tweets). His offering and requests were based on that assumption. But now that he knows it was incorrect, what would he do? Ignore and move on or maybe typical of him, attack a part of world hunger all by himself with his own ways.

But Musk is challenging the claim that the specific amount will solve the hunger crisis, saying on Twitter that if the World Food Programme could show its math, then he would "sell Tesla stock right now and do it." He also demanded transparency about how the money would be spent.

Beasley responded to Musk by tweeting: "I can assure you that we have the systems in place for transparency and open source accounting. Your team can review and work with us to be totally confident of such."

I don’t think he was assuming it was true. This was about exposing the falseness of the original headline and the person who tweeted about it in an effort to shame him.

Look at Musk putting statements out, then backtracking like a little b**** when called out........putting all these rules in place......lol.....

I hope they call his bluff, I like what he has done at Tesla but the man is a blow hard grandstander.

Sure, if his offer was in good faith. Obviously, he's not going to be donating jack-**** and the only point was to call WFP liars. If he was at all sincere, he'd have reached out to them privately. But he called them out on Twitter.

Musk strikes me as a classic Ebeneezer Scrooge character but with a weird pharma-bro cult following.

Yeah, it's not a big issue because nonprofits & NGO's all do this by law, simply because you or Elon Musk don't know this is...not newsworthy?

You and me and Elon can - at any time - can search for "World Food Program Annual Report" and arrive here: https://www.wfp.org/publications/annual-performance-report-2020 - it's actually less effort than tweeting or posting!

Anyway, nothng to see here, Elon Musk being an online troll for attention. Thanks Elon.

Maybe Musk is being a troll maybe he just doesn’t communicate well or maybe everyone is reading more into it than what might there. It’s a legitimate request show how $6 billion can reach said goals. If WFP didn’t actually mean that claim or exaggerated it then it seems more like they miscommunicated in an effort to drum up more donations.

Yes those are publicly available records but Musk was asking specifically how would his $6 Billion go to solving world hunger.

But obviously Musk didn't know that - which is why he responds with:

“Please publish your current & proposed spending in detail so people can see exactly where money goes. Sunlight is a wonderful thing.”

Of course, he and you could have gained this insight in by reading those records or you know, doing it the way the other philantropy overlords of ours do, which involves foundations & grants etc; but he didn't because he has 1) no interest in this area 2) no intention of giving anybody 6 billion dollars and 3) was instead going for another knee-slapper of an internet own like "Texas Institute of Technology & Sciences" or 4:20 jokes or whatever.

It's just somebody taking a dumb position on the internet out of ignorance for attention, then doubling down on it over and over rather than back down; that somebody happens to be a elon musk instead some rando from a basketball message board.
