i dont expect them to be good. my problem isn’t that I expect them to be good… it’s that apparently Silas does by putting them in situations they aren’t good at, despite there being better options that they’re better at. there’s film guys on Twitter. Some of the posts in here are of that. I’m not clipping video (do t even know how to do that lol). this ain’t just a young guy issue. CWood is good at stuff… surely you agree he’s good at something lol. What’s a play they run for him? He’s their best player. They want to get him the ball in whatever spot is best for him. How do they do that?
Our practice facility is perfect for working with younger players. So small it keeps the distractions to a minimum. I mention this because a dominant coach could make a difference quickly. Whistle blows, then in a firm voice “Hold the balls” then with a whispering voice “We need leadership more than friendship”
realistic , but painful if indeed they keep the play-in system ... i think we need to push for playoff before 24. Im just asking not to be a bottom 5 team in our conference. by 24 arent most guys from the rookie class on the last year of their contract ?
Still too early to make judgements in my opinion. I think many are discounting the difficulty of acclimating a young point guard with a disjointed team full of rookies, young vets, and older vets looking for greener pastures. This is effectively still preseason for this team.
Expecting Silas to get an extension for the coaches minimum. Tillman knows a bargain when he sees it.
yeah they would be entering their last year. 21-22 = another top 5 pick 22-23 = a mid lotto pick summer of 2023 = wall, gordon off the books. max cap space to support green/sengun entering year 3. decisions to be made about resigning wood/scoot. 23-24 = play in tournament or low playoff seed. summer 2024 = extensions for this year's rookies its not easy climbing up from the bottom. towns, Edwards, and dlo are hoping to make the play-in. if green, scoot, and sengun are as good as those guys in 3 years we'd be super lucky... and hoping for a play in tournament game. starting from rock bottom will take a long time.
No i won't lol. You do all this Silas/Stone bashing then flip and recommend trash azz Kenny Atkinson? Before that you pushed for a Ben Simmons/James Harden trade. Literally everything you post is the absolute WORST. I cant hold back any longer lol
Developing players does not mean putting them in situations they ARE good at. It means putting them in situations they learn from. If you just do stuff you're already good at, then how are you learning?
No you’re definitely trying, or should be, to put them in situations they can excel….. while then secondarily working on in the background and slowly implementing things they’re not great at, but maybe eventually could be. like when I’ve coached middle school aged boys basketball, I’m not asking the wing that is “ok” at dribbling to be the point in games, even though in practice we might spend time with all players working in these types of dribbling skills and the wing guy will get some opportunities high HIIT the game to push the ball KPJ is already, for example, in a position he’s not great at, playing point. You want to ease him into that, not just be like “go run some PnRs and see what develops”, even though inevitably that will come. Green is already in a position he’s not grea at, playing SG as a 19 year old 175 pounder in the nba, you want to ease him Into that not just be like “go show the world your iso package!!” remember that play where Jalen cut back door off an off ball pick and got an easy pass and layup??? Me neither… they don’t seem to want to run any of that, even though he’s well suited for it.
The fix is easy, the Rockets need a true point guard. KPJ is NOT a distrubtor and isnt looking good enough to get guys going. He'll make a good pass here & there, but overall he's not a guy that'll set the pace & tone. We need a Mike Conley type guard to play next to Green
I’ve got a suggestion how about play John Wall and get rid of this awful coaching staff (except John Lucas who Porter needs when/if he relapses).
Should get Terry Stotts in here now to get this team rolling. But it dont matter clutchfans like mediocrity teams and come here to whine off a lost. Should trade wood and kpj and make this green team. Surround green with good young minded defensive players, team vets. Look to draft a big time center. Tilman Houston Rockets likes the tax savings so this team blows. Most people dont have to watch it either.
I was WAY WAY wrong about Green. surely I’m not wrong about this right?? Lol… maybe I’m an idiot about basketball… the coaching is horrendous right?
It’s on the coaching staff to motivate and light a fire under the guys. Especially young players, who often need a good kick in the ass to wake up. We can play poorly, but there is no excuse to play lazily. But when the veterans on the team are players like House, who keeps inexplicably getting minutes over guys that bring good energy, I start to doubt the leadership in the locker room. It’s not a Mobley vs Green thing. I think that’s the wrong way to look at it. We don’t need to bash the other draft picks every time Green has a good game, or vice-versa. The real issue is what kind of developmental environment there is around our future stars. Are they learning from their mistakes? Are they forced to take responsibility? Are they building good habits that they can build on as their bodies mature? THAT is the job of someone coaching a young team. And if we can’t do that, then it’s time for a change
Silas isn’t getting the most out of these guys, and ultimately that’s his job description. They may not have enough talent to be a winning team, but they do have enough talent to be better than this. I don’t expect much, but what they’re putting out there right now is unacceptable, and at the end of the day it’s his responsibility. I think he knows that, but I’m not sure he has any idea of what to do about it.
I don’t think any reasonable person expects a winning team. Atleast I don’t. What is pissing me off is that I see no improvement. No offensive system. Just pick up ball. no one can tell me this team is SO MUCH worse than every other roster in the league. It’s just not true. Silas is just abysmal at this point. Players are regressing from what they’ve been last year. Wood has regressed. So has KPJ. He came out of the G-league looking like a future star, after the training camp that people kept mentioning was so important for Silas to get his message across, he’s regressed. the only player that is as good/better than last year is Tate. And that might just be a usage thing, he was always good at his occasional postups. My concern is that we’re not only throwing a year of development into the trashbin but also accept regression from the young guys. In the name of the tank? You don’t need to play like a G-league team and go 1-81 to have the best odds possible.
As soon as I heard Hornacek was going to be allowed into this franchise, a curse would be cast upon the Rockets. We must oust Jeff and free Sil@ss from his spell.
