You don't think he would just sit on the bench and collect his paycheck?

Pass. Christian is always hurt, and even if he wasn’t, I’m not sure anyone can run behind that line. No way I’d do that deal. Just wait it out...

Imagine trading your two best players/assets for washed up RBs … LOL

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...eadline-willing-to-trade-christian-mccaffrey/

Panthers owner David Tepper has not given up hope of acquiring former Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson via trade, according to several sources who have been in close contact with him, and it remains a priority for the franchise ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

That's not to say that a trade is imminent, however, as the Panthers and Texans have yet to agree on the parameters of a deal, and, league sources said, renewed talks early last week did not progress as either side has hoped. Houston's asking price for the quarterback remains too high for the Panthers' liking (as well as the Dolphins), though there is an expectation within the industry that could change by Tuesday, which would be Houston's last chance to unload the player prior to the start of the 2022 league year in March.

The Texans have held out for five or six key pieces for Watson, including at least three first-round picks. No one has met that to this point. League sources said the Panthers are willing to part with three high picks and All Pro running back Christian McCaffrey in a package for Watson; the Texans are very high on several of the Panthers' young defensive standouts (still on their rookie contracts and younger and cheaper than McCaffrey), and the sides have yet to reach a compromise.

The Panthers have more proven young talent than the Dolphins, one other factor that could lead to them, and not Miami, landing Watson. Panthers executive Steven Drummond is very close with Texans top exec Jack Easterby, the Texans would prefer to ship Watson to the NFC, all things being equal, and Tepper's motivation to land Watson should not be overlooked. He has made it clear throughout his organization for some time that he covets the Texans' franchise QB, he is looking to expand the Panthers as a regional brand deeper into South Carolina, and believes that adding Clemson star players could help in that cause.

Tepper's frustration about the inability to find stability at the quarterback position, let alone high-end production, is high following four straight losses going into this weekend.

"The only reason that he doesn't have Watson already is that the price is too high," said one source with direct knowledge of the situation. "That's it. He's wanted him for a long time. And there is still a lot of time between now and Tuesday. His patience is wearing thin."

Another source with knowledge of the situation said: "This is a hedge fund guy. He is reading markets and looking for value. All you heard last week is the Panthers are out of it. Sure they are. He'll be back by Tuesday. Nothing is over until the deadline passes."

Suffice to say, there is a strong expectation in NFL circles that the Panthers will be among those talking to the Texans up to the deadline. Given Watson's legal matters, the complexities of such a trade, as well as Watson's uncertain playing status this season and beyond, many general managers have long surmised that Watson would not get dealt until 2022. And that very well could be the case. But there remain interested parties with the matter coming to a head early this week.

It's funny because two days ago it was Miami, only Miami, and always only Miami. Watson wouldn't waive his no trade clause for anyone else.

It takes three to tango here.

This seems like the Texans, yet again, trying to push Miami to include more. Are the Texans desperate? Are they going to get three firsts? Crazy to think they may not...

This has been an amazing amount of noise and smoke over something that we've all recognized as an obvious truth about this situation from day 1. No one is going to trade for Watson until they know the outcome of his legal situation.

It’ll be interesting to see if Watson’s team throws a hissy fit via leaked stories if he isn’t moved by the deadline.

CAR and MIA have to know if they don't trade for him now, the price will likely go up in March. By then we should know more on the legal battle and there will be more teams that will be interested if he's cleared or settled.

I think Tepper is the wildcard in DW moving by 2 Nov. He's already assessed the risk/reward of acquiring Watson the distressed asset. He knows now is likely his best shot at getting Watson at below market value, if he waits there will be more competition and likely a bidding war. He also still has a chance to be competitive this year and that may help push his chips over the line.

Personally, I'm ready to wait until the offseason to deal Watson. We need a bidding war, we deserve a bidding war and knowing what slot value the picks will be just makes too much sense.

They know that, but they also know that if they trade for him and he gets suspended or sent to the slammer that it would likely cost them their jobs.

So, while the likelihood of that happening is small, the downside is so dire it's stopping a deal.

I don't think the threat of a suspension will inhibit a decision to trade for a young franchise QB. Likely just a blip on his career.

As for going to the slammer, that is possible, but is it probable given how long HPD has been investigating the criminal complaints? I don't know, but someone with Tepper's resources can better assess all of the variables before making this kind of decision.

From CAR perspective, I think this is more about posturing to try to get what they want. If its true MIA has agreed on the compensation, then they haven't moved forward because they want some kind of protection. Cas is trying to leverage every rumor he can. I may be proven wrong, but if a deal is done my Tues its either CAR or they push MIA into a position to give us the assets we want without the protections.

If Tues passes and no deal, then the unknowns outweighed the reward (your assertion) and Watson's camp will now have to figure out whether pursuing the courtroom or a settlement is going to be his best course to continue his career.

This is dumb. Don't care about his no trade clause, Deshaun ****ed himself signing that long term extension and then asking to be traded a year later.

Hold out long enough and eventually he will waive it for any team just to play again. The market doesn't just dry up for a top 5 NFL QB even if they like to get their butthole played with

I could still see Miami being desperate enough to do it, but what incentive do the Texans have to give him away? If Watson wants to play for Flores, he better do it now because at this rate Flores might not even be around next year. Houston has nothing to lose by waiting. Miami? A little more. Pay up, b****es!
