As I've been saying, Deshaun is pulling a James Harden. He essentially has one team he wants to go to, and he won't stop until he gets there.

I say you force him to play, or you ruin his reputation when he refuses to play. If he wants to fight the legal charges, by all means, he deserves that. But he's not going to dictate where he goes to play while he fights them. He thinks he's innocent. From a strict legal perspective, he probably would be found innocent, due to lack of evidence.

Basically what he's saying, is he wants the world to forget about this and not remember he did it. That's great, but you're ruining your reputation as a human with this, and as a player by forcing your way to one team in the league. Let's let him ruin it even further. Force the NFL to suspend him and then make him active just to make him sweat.

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/10/29/gameplan-trade-deadline-rumors-deshaun-watson

Very clearly, at several junctures, parties interested in facilitating a Deshaun Watson trade have tried to make it happen. There was the push before the draft, one at the start of training camp, again at the beginning of the season and, now, finally, in the days leading up to Tuesday’s trade deadline.

To this point, every effort on the part of Watson’s camp, and on the part of the Texans, to get the embattled 26-year-old quarterback moved has failed.

Why? Well, for all the reports of teams’ calling and deals’ looming that have fizzled into a big puddle of nothing, there are really three people on the ground for this one, two with different motivations than the third. One is Watson himself. Another is Texans owner Cal McNair. Those two, estranged since McNair failed to follow through on a promise to involve Watson throughout the team’s coach/GM search, are on the same page—both want a separation.

The third party, Houston GM Nick Caserio, is the one charged with pulling off the deal. And his role in all of this is more important than most people have considered.

He’s also the reason I think there’s a good chance there won’t be a deal for Watson next week.

Just put yourself in Caserio’s shoes. He was hired in January, with no first- or second-round pick in his first draft as a GM, a messy cap situation and an aging roster. When he took the job, its allure was Watson, a young franchise quarterback under contract for another five years. But first with Watson’s trade request, and then with 23 lawsuits filed alleging sexual misconduct, it steadily became clear that Caserio wouldn’t have him either.

Less than 10 months later, his football team is 1–6. To this point, it’s been led by a third-round rookie named Davis Mills, who, while talented, hasn’t asserted himself as the long-term answer. The players, for their part, have shown effort and character. And, still, there’s no question this is a ground-up operation for the (still) new guy in charge.

All of which is why he can’t take a discount for Watson or allow himself to be held at gunpoint to make a trade. Watson is far and away the Texans’ most valuable asset, and the chip that Caserio can use to supercharge the rebuild. If he takes 50 cents on the dollar? Or gives another team six-ways-from-Sunday protections on a trade? Then, Caserio’s leaving himself with no quarterback or the capital to build on any sort of expedited timetable.

And here’s another key question: What does it benefit Caserio to trade Watson now?

By trading him now, you’re making the team you’re trading him to better, necessarily devaluing the picks you’re trading for. Conversely, if you wait until February, you know where any 2022 pick you’re getting will be. Also, there’d likely be more suitors to drive the price up, and maybe more clarity as to Watson’s standing both legally and with the league.

The downside of waiting is carrying Watson on the roster the rest of the year, sure. But I’d argue the Texans have already weathered the storm on that. They dealt with the awkward days of July and August. They’ve had him in the building, and around the guys, and that’s all been fine. They’ve paid nearly half his salary. There is, of course, the risk that Watson’s legal situation worsens, but it’s tough to guess on the unknown there.

As for what we do know, I’d think we can say two things. One, the Texans’ best player is someone who hasn’t played a snap for them, or anyone, this year. And two, they’d be better off keeping it that way than dealing him off for anything but full value.

Which, I believe, is why Caserio to this point has done the right thing, no matter how much the other two principals involved might be wishing for a different result.

I don't think he gets traded.

I don't know if he ever gets traded.

As I said, the Texans need to activate him, force the NFL to make a decision, and then bench Watson. We're not losing any worse by not having that last active player.

Force Watson's hand. Then, if and when this clears up, make your decision on it you want to trade him or not.

Dude is stuck between a rock and a hard place because he tried to leverage himself to a certain team and he buttholed himself into a tough legal spot. Push the boulder into him more!

I think it's a win-win to make him sit out at least one season. The Texans tank to secure draft position plus Watson actually gets some kind of punishment for being a serial abuser of women....likely the ONLY punishment he'll ever get for that.....AND we'll get to flip him to a team with decent picks in the upcoming draft.

This. Honestly I’m rooting for Tua to ball out and secure his status as the Dolphins QB of the future. If it is indeed true that Deshaun is only willing to waive his NTC for Miami, I hope they publicly say they don’t want him. Make this puss sit at home and think about what he’s trying to do. This isn’t the NBA. It’s the mf NFL.

By the draft, there will be multiple teams who want a franchise QB. The draft picks and slots will be set. Hopefully he has his bs resolved and he should be thankful that ANY team wants his ass.( no pun intended)

What a mess for the Dolphins. I give them pass for drafting Tua over Herbert because no one knew Herbert would be this good…but trading up after trading down was dumb and looks like it’s going to be very costly.

Also the overall haul for Tunsil doesn’t look that impressive.

The fact Watson only wants to go to Miami and nowhere else shows just how unserious about football and immature he really is. If he really wanted to be playing the game and had love for it he would have accepted one of the many trades and destinations over the past few months. As a competitor, what is the difference between moving from one dysfunctional franchise to a slightly less dysfunctional franchise (that will then be depleted of draft picks)?

He wants Miami for lifestyle only. He's a damn punk ass, immature ass, non-humble, POS.

Lol Deshaun has the best job in the entire world: He's getting paid 30 million dollars to not even play or risk injury. If I was him I'd do this too. Why would I want to get traded when I can get the guy I hate to pay me 156 million for the next 4 years and I don't have to do anything. Sign me up. That is the American Dream.

Not that simple. Dude has lost MILLIONS of dollars in endorsements, legal fees, potentially facing an impending suspension which will cost him game checks, and let’s not forget about the 22 potential settlements that will cost him likely 6 figures a piece.

Once Tuesday comes and goes, if there is no trade, I’d be willing to bet Deshaun becomes very impatient over the next few months leading up to the draft.

I see what you did there lol.

I'm in the camp of wait till draft to move Watson. I'm still upset we spent so many years trying to find a QB and this crap happens. Please Astros win a chip and give up something to look forward to.

Hopefully once the deadline passes and the alleged perpetrator is still a texan, the team forces his hand (something he’s be accused of doing himself.) and makes him play or makes him face some semblance of consequence. I’m so sick of watching the accused get to collect checks for doing nothing. defendant is facing nothing and the league is turning a blind eye while espn pretends he’s not being accused of dozens of counts of sexual misconduct

Im just saying if I was him, 156 million is more than enough for me to go live somewhere and get unlimited massages. Think he's set for life with or without endorsements.

If only he prepped himself in that manner before massages, perhaps he wouldn't have assaulted so many women.

FWIW(not much)- pancakes, I mean walrus, I mean John McClain said this evening that he still believes Watson gets traded by the deadline.
Basically said that it’s up to Deshaun to decide if he wants to settle before Tuesday if he really wants Miami. Said that the parameters of the trade are agreed upon contingent on Deshaun settling. Said he believes there have been settlement numbers out there for months from Buzbee and his clients.

    We will see

If healthy, McCaffery is probably the best player in the NFL. Dude can do everything on the offensive side of the ball except be a QB. He can probably return the ball well too, if he really wanted to.

But the dude just cannot stay healthy. If he's this injury prone now (read: while he's still so young), it's hard to see his shelf life being long. This is McCaffery's prime, and he's in street clothes most of the time. Hard pass.

If we had to deal with CAR, getting high picks and young defensive players should absolutely be the way to go. Might as well try to get PJ Walker, too.

Picks, young defensive studs and PJ Walker. That's where the conversation should begin.
