Do people also not realize that "Championship" coach Steve Kerr had 15 wins when he had Draymond and Scrubs?
Your argument makes you take this covnersation to place where one of the best coaches in the league isnt really a good coach just lucky lol Ofcourse they had a better situation than we do now most teams do but part of our bad situation is Silas lol
True. But we weren’t in contention mode yet. We were an average team trying to develop an identity. McHale had the right combination of punishing players when they didn’t perform or work with the team (see Harden game 6) and letting guys figure things out. He wasn’t a system guy. Silas on the other hand, I thought, was supposed to be a system guy, but all he seems to want to do is let guys figure it out alone while he smiles on the sideline like a proud dad just happy his son got in the game. The “let them figure it out” strategy works with some teams and some coaches. Phil was notorious for letting guys play through bad stretches, but he wasn’t ever dealing with super young, bad teams. For him it was more about letting talented rosters/lineups figure each other out and how to battle adversity. He let teams go on 20-0 runs without a timeout sometimes just to let his team learn to fight back. Seems like Silas read a book about coaching and is trying to apply all the lessons but just doesn’t have the “it” factor that makes anyone great at anything in the sports world.
Well... there we have it, first thing on the list is the dude shows up on time!! Amazing! #3 is reclaim KPJ from the scrap heap when it seems like the longer KPJ has been around Silas' coaching, the worse he's gotten [reclaimed, with John Lucas and the g-league, brought up and balled out, now with offseason and training camp and more practice time, looks much worse]. Negatives Lack of focus on fundamentals. Bad / lack of offensive system - he wants them to play "free". Bad play creation / installation. Bad / lack of defensive system. Not playing to his player's strengths. Poor in game/half time adjustments. Questionable rotation choices.
I'm not sure that Kerr is really all that great at player development to be honest. He certainly isn't anything special.... Ty Lue out coached him in the Finals and I haven't see the young players in GS explode on the scene.
Our team has more talent than that 2019 gsw team. Without Klay and Steph, two sure thing HOFers. They basically had Dlo as their only star and then Wiggins when they traded. Good players, but nowhere close to being able to carry a team. Draymond is a very good and smart player but he’s a glue guy. The best of the best of glue guys but a glue guy nonetheless. He’s Shane battier and Chuck Hayes combined. You need a player like that to win but he isn’t going to be the reason you win, you HAVE to surround him with great players to get real production from him and Dlo/Wiggins weren’t close to being that. point being, Christian Wood, kpj, green, ego, Tate, theis should be able to win more games than draymond, Dlo/Wiggins, looney, chriss, Poole, Caullie-stein, and a bunch of other dudes I don’t even recognize.
You sound just like the people on realgm when people were asking for Mchale to be fired and then MDA comes in and shows exactly why Mchale wasnt the guy. Same with Llyod Pierce who had a big fan base of people angry at the thought that he was being blamed for the Hawks poor play and we all know how that turned out. There are lots of negative things he's done and people give those examples constantly in this thread alone. You can tell when a team has been well prepared and when it hasnt and this team has not been well prepared. We noticed this in summer league, that early and his coaching staff response was oh well we are not running anything. Like you're not even trying to find out how Sengun would be as a facilitator in the offense? You're not even curious? Compare that to Bickerstaff seeing that Mobley can guard the perimeter and putting him against paul george. You take what your players do well and fit your system to that. Silas has yet to do that for any player on this roster. You bring up playing Sengun early in his career as if its not a no brainer. Sengun should be starting and getting more minutes and getting used to playing without fouling as much. He also should be playing JC and Brooks. Silas is basically a rookie coach trying to teach rookies and its gonna take awhile longer with him as coach and it may even set some players back.
DLo and Wiggins are better than anyone on this roster currently( and that includes Woods and Ego). No one on this roster can carry a team. Draymond Green is HOF and is the best defender of his generation. They also had Eric Paschall on that team who scored 13 points on 5 shots and absolutely dominated us last night. They really shouldnt. We arent that good. I dont know what you were expecting but we arent that. Like those are a bunch of established NBA players you have listed on GS roster. Our guys arent that yet.
LOL, when guys lead with "lack of focus on fundamentals" it's a good tell. Anyway, you prove my point, you are just looking at the resutls and saying "BAD!" - same as me, I look and say "meh". Name one poor in-game adjustment - what was the missing adjustment last night that would have turned the tide? Though if I recall correctly teh Rockets did make some mid-game run to go from 36 down to below 20, not that it mattered. Haha, this rmeind sme, f I recall correctly there was a faction of the board (probably led by you) last year that used to say "Oh NO halftime since our coaches suck soi much at making adjustments we're just going to get blown out even MORE!" when the Rockets actually had their best point differential ion the 3rd period more so than any other period. It just seemed like it, because they were a bad team. That's life on the bottom of the NBA. Actually reminds me of the people who used to b**** about Dantony's crappy playcalling - when he had the best ATO playcalling record in the league that season.
I thought Mark Jackson had them and turned them around. They installed secret cameras and got him fired.
^"Should be playing rookes more but also have them look more like veterans and win more games!" - the neverending cycle.
We really need to make a "Rockets Plays" thread. We as a board should be more informed about what our team actually runs and what the defense do to adjust. Until then, a lot of this talk about poor coaching(sans Nook and others ) is a lot of hot air. Id really like to see @heypartner opinion on this. He did a lot of good things that were underrated for them. But he was also....well toxic. He would pit players against each other and really brought a bad vibe to the locker room.
ALl that stuff is on stats.nba.com - if you wanted to build some case against the Rocket playing style, the data is available to test this hypothesis! I mean, there's tons of noise because, you know, worst roster in NBA and all, but still, you can try! Like if you're @JayZ750 and your'e going to pronounce an experiment over, there's data with which to validate! Hard data! Instead we get "NEEDS TO FOCUS ON FUNDAMENTALS!" - gee thanks, should they bring in Jimmy Chitwood to run the picket fence, coach?
Why are you showing quotes of things I DIDNT SAY LMAO. If you have to change what I said then Im going to take that as you knowing I was right and not having anything significant to respond so you have to make it up lol
I'll happily lead with something legitimate over "he shows up on time" lol. What? This doesn't make any sense... we are ALL looking at the results. I'm just not focused on w/l results. You are making zero attempt to do anything other than look at the score. I don't want to turn the tide. I want to see better player development and adjustment. I don't care about the score. I want to see in game adjustments like "here's a play we're going to run out of this timeout" and have it look like an actual play was drawn up, or "we have to focus on rebounding and not going straight into Rudy on every play", or "stop overcomplicating it, hit the open guy", or "switch every PnR" or "switch no PnRs", or... any evidence that absolutely anything was addressed or focused on at any point in time lol 1st quarter looks like 2nd quarter, looks like 3rd quarter looks like 4th quarter... every game this year. Whether they're winning the quarter or losing it. EDIT: 4th Q looks different when the "scrubs" come in. I didn't post much last year. When I did post I was defending Silas - crappy situation, was handling with grace, yada, yada. What season and how was this measured and where can I find it on the internet?? I'm seriously curious.
Right lmao but would you really expect the average user on here to be able to tell us what went wrong or right on a given play?
Thread Title . . . . @SamFisher 's head Doesn't watch very much. Thinks coaching doesn't matter. Doesn't believe in fundamentals. Yikes. You should switch to Big 3 basketball... though to be fair, even there they coach. Maybe just watch them play at Rucker... might be more your style.
Like unless you guys want to present us with plays about what guys arent and are doing. Than what are we doing here. Make a thread, post plays and tell us why are coaching sucks.
