I don't think Green was a bad choice tbh, at least if we give him good coaching. You can see the ability there, he's just rough and sloppy and forcing a lot. At multiple short bursts tonight you could see the fluidity in his playmaking, his driving potential, hell, even what his athleticism can do for him as a defender. But yeah I'm not all-in on Stone (or any GM for that matter, I tried that with Morey and feel like an idiot for being that way now) he's had great moves, he's had bad ones too. Some of the signings since he got here I've thought were either crap or just throwing crap at a wall and hoping it sticks, and sure he lucked out with some. GM is less of an immediate issue than coaching though, sure he might **** up on what pieces we get, Silas can actually **** up the pieces we get if he does it wrong. That's a subtle but distinct difference.
This is not a defense of anyone but… The coaching staff experiment is just beginning. The Jalen Green experiment is just beginning. The rebuilding is just beginning. The looking awful is just beginning. The losing is just beginning. Sixers process: 34-48 (Doug Collins) 19-63 (Brett Brown) 18-64 (Brett Brown) 10-72 (Brett Brown) 28-54 (Brett Brown) (Brown got 3 more years after) Different sport but Astros process: 76-86 (Brad Mills) 56-106 (Brad Mills) 55-107 (Brad Mills/Tony DeFrancesco) 51-111 (Bo Porter) 70-92 (Bo Porter/Tom Lawless) I don’t see Stone or the Tilman firing Silas. Not this year, probably not next year either. Not unless the players quit. (Which is possible? Hornacek said at half players were just going through the motions which is yikes!) They “settled” on Silas. Star players wanted Thai Lu The Tilman wanted JVG
that brings me back to Stone tho…the guy who might be fcking things up is someone he hired, yet he’s getting let off the hook Is he just gonna sit back like it’s all good, or bring in someone who can develop these players and have the team looking even a little bit competent?
I dunno man, I get that we want to tank but at some point your coach can be so lost/clueless that it's detrimental to the development of your players. I'm not saying we should be winning or even that I want this team to win a bunch of games, but it is important to develop your young players and teach them all the right things. It does not seem like they're getting that so far, or that they will get that from Silas.
Oh I'm with you there. He needs to do something. Whether that's reminding Silas he has a job to do or moving on to somebody who actually can do it. I really struggle to give Silas his flowers on his past "successes" when any coach would have success coaching Lebron James or Steph Curry. 2 of the 3 best players in their era. I'd be more impressed if he was the person who turned Kyle Lowry from a decent starter to a multi-Allstar and champion for example. I'm not sure how much weight I can throw behind a guy's claim to fame being having successful results from Lebron James.
yeah, agreed u can stack up all the talented young players u want, but if they’re just out there looking clueless and chucking, they won’t reach their full potential people thought KPJr could average 10 assists this year heading into the season, but he looks like a complete scrub with no direction
not gonna lie, I got catfished by the whole “Silas was the architect of the Mavericks historically great offense” thing…it was a good marketing tool for Silas
Me too, I now really struggle to believe it. I could very easily believe that Luka is the architect and Silas was the nice guy he let take the credit though. Remember when Rick Adelman had Martin, Scola, Bud and the Chuck Wagon as perennial 8 seeds? There was a LOT less talent on those teams, but they never ever looked lost to me. I know the draft positions were frustrating, but I LOVED that era of scrapping it out every night. Where do we get one of those coaches from?
Luka was not the architect of the offense but he is a big reason as to why that offense worked! 6'8 can shoot outside, good court vision and just flat out a difference maker. Something you expect to draft after being so bad a season ago. Add some reliable shooters and some big men that can either roll to the basket or shoot from outside and you have a great offense.
Their is a lack of fundamentals no doubt. Their is no level of discipline and their tentative. The worst thing is no motivation. Coach looks subdued the whole game. This is not Jr high. The guys are young and inexperienced but if you look how hard Sengun plays that she be every night from everyone on the floor.at least. The dude was crashing the boards and initiating contact. Dude got massive heart. The passive mentality is sickening and its an indictment on Coach Silas. The crazy thing about I wish we had his dad he would be on players BUTTS in a minute. I like the thought about Coach Atkinson coaching this Team. Coach Silas is only Assistant Coach or College Coach material.
What would be much more shocking this year is if the Rockets looks organized, cohesive, and focused coming out of the preseason. The starting lineup is... PG - Someone learning the position SG - A teenager SF - A guy that is extraordinarily inconsistent PF - Soon-to-be All Star C - A career role-player Sam Fisher had it right. Watch how they do against teams of equal or lesser talent. Also, watch what happens over the course of the year. Will they be able to put together some strings of wins? Will they be able to get hot based on talent alone? Will they have any marquis wins? Will they show improvement over the course of the year? Keep in mind that things always look much worse when you're losing. I think I'm pretty decent at my job, and I look at the unbelievable mistakes my young coworkers make on a daily basis. It's cringe-worthy, but I know they're going to get it in the future.
Under / Over games until Silas cries at a presser? Really like the guy, probably the worst coach I have ever actually liked as a person. I don't really care about tanking another year, but am concerned about his inability to develop the young guys and not having them develop good habits early on.
That's actually one of the worst bits of it for me, he's too damn likeable. I get that you want a good relationship with your players, but coaches can't just sit chill on the sidelines making no adjustments or seemingly any reaction to anything at all. The only emotions I've even seen from him are chill and gutted looking. God bless him he seems like a lovely man but I need somebody who can rip the team a new ******* when it needs to be done, or at least show some kind of energy.
Folks, im old enough to remember people yelling about JVG/Adelman/whoever for not playing or developing our young "talent" like.. Luther Head or Carl Landry, even though those guys played a lot; yet now the problem is... our 19 year olds play too much and look like 19 year olds with 0 NBA experience after ....4 games. Hire JBB
We're not even b****ing about development though, there's no structure to anything at all. Even the veteran players look clueless. Guys who've been in the league for years. I never once saw JVG/Adelman era teams look like they didn't have an offensive system, any plays or know what their roles were...
throwing this group out there and telling them “here, learn how to make reads” is like throwing Shakespeare at 5-year olds and telling them "here, learn how to read"… You need some A,B,C some direction, some situations that lead to small successes, so that they feel good about making progress…
I didn't see anything last season which justified the circle jerk many were giving over Silas being hired. Needless to say i'd seen more bad than good this year. Dude just isn't cut out to be a head coach in this league. That's nothing to be ashamed of. I just wish the franchise would realise it. But then again. We've got someone who's not cut out to be an owner so..... incoming 40 year extension inbound for Assistant Coach Silas.
