From having a bunch of teen and tween kids, I just wanted to come in to say they get big helpings of lgbt+ and socialism (really utopian communism because socialism is a little too well-grounded for their tastes) propaganda, though it comes from other kids and from media, not the school. They could use more CRT, so I supplement as I'm able.
So they don't want their kids taught the Truth. Bible school is an option for them then. There they can misunderstand and pervert the teachings of Jesus, and the bible is closer to a fairy tale than the truth.
I haven't followed this issue as closely as others but from what I can see this does seem like the opposition to "CRT". It is a hodgepodge of various ideas circulating in culture that have gotten many uncomfortable. I don't have kids so I don't know exactly what is being taught in public schools here in MN but frequently at community gatherings there are acknowledgements that we are on "stolen land".
So is it safe to say that they are ok with them knowing about slavery but not to feel bad about it. But it's ok for the black kids to feel like they are less than human because of the history that has been taught to them.
It is fine for them to feel bad about it. Everyone should feel bad about slavery, it was a terrible thing visited upon many millions of people since the dawn of man. The US practiced a particularly cruel form of slavery. What they should not do is place any responsibility for those actions on people that did not participate in them. I don't know what they are teaching black kids that would make them feel less than human. If anything, any teaching of slavery should emphasize the very humanity of the enslaved and the slavers, and how people have the capacity to be either. If that is your conception of the Truth, I pity your existence. This has been asked before. Unfortunately, I don't have access to every lesson plan of every school in the United States to quickly provide you with answers. Usually you end up seeing a news report here or a tweet there that talks about what is happening in one particular class, often not even mentioning what school is involved (something along the lines of "Look what they are teaching my daughter in 4th grade" or the like). I know I have seen at least two stories about classes where the young white children were told to apologize because they were white. Here are three examples for you: Elite K-8 school teaches white students they’re born racist (nypost.com) ‘To be white is to be racist, period,’ a high school teacher told his class - The Washington Post New York school tells white kids they should be ashamed of their privilege | Daily Mail Online
yes, indeed. white supremacists deny that indigenous people were here hundreds of years before the Europeans found America Chinese laborers played an integral part in the construction of the transcontinental railroads in the US in the mid-1800s FDR issued an executive order to sent Japanese Americans to internment camps, as well as confiscating their assets, when US was in war w Japan WW2 no such EO were issued against German Americans when US was in war w Germany in WW1 an WW2 the Nazi set up concentration camps to exterminate Jews; millions of Jews die there that Trump had lost the 2020 POTUS election, by more than 7 million votes, the largest margin of defeat in US history
No one is trying to place any responsibility on anybody that did not participate in the practice the bottom line is this they just don't want the real History of America and how they have treated others.Whips and chains were how they treated black men and women that's just one of the ways that would make anyone feel less than human them knowing that it is one of the reasons that cops treat them in the manner they do also would make one feel less than human.
The truth is the truth they just don't want that to happen but the world is looking and seeing the truth about America.
More than ten thousand years, actually. Is there anyone that denies this? It is included in pretty mainstream stuff like Deadwood. Even the Chinese exclusion act following the construction of the railroads is taught in school. Again, does anyone actually deny this. It is pretty widely taught. There are voluminous records. It is even referenced in mass market movies. It's in the Karate Kid. German Americans were interned during both World War I and World War II. By the time of World War II German Americans had been pretty well integrated into American society, with more than 11 million residents being either immigrants themselves or having one or both parents as German immigrants, not to mention those who had been here for more than two generations. Even so, more than 11,000 Germans were interned during WWII. Internment of German Americans - Wikipedia Holocaust denial is VERY niche. Pretty much everyone is aware of the Holocaust. Again, it is well covered in major media and education. Obviously Schindler's List, but also the Kite Runner, Band of Brothers, etc. I don't think anyone is unaware of the actual reported results. Some people doubt the integrity of the election, but I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that is unaware that the election was called for Biden. The margin of victory is largely a result of population size. In terms of percentage of the vote, it is like the 33rd largest margin of victory, or thereabouts. The "they" in your sentence died a long time ago. There hasn't been legal slavery in the United States for more than 150 years. No one alive owned slaves or was a slave (not counting illegal slavery which continues through modern day, largely among Asian populations). Roots was broadcast in1977, it is not a secret that black slaves suffered whips and chains. I don't know why knowing that would make anyone in modern America feel less than human nor do I think modern police officers think they should treat black suspects differently because they were enslaved when the officers' great great great grandparents were born.
How else would you describe it ? The US broke every treaty ever signed with native tribes and destroyed our entire way of life .... and when we fought back they killed our women and children and banished what was left of us to reservations in places that were unsuitable for living like swamps in Florida , the worthless nothing that is Oklahoma Indian territory & the badlands of northern Mexico / New Mexico.
Not denying the history at all but I do think there is a time and place for that. I'm not sure kicking off National Night Out by stating that our neighborhood is on Stolen Land is necessarily helpful or productive. To add again my understanding is that isn't even Critical Race Theory but it seems like CRT is being used as a catch all for a lot of things like that.
Included in that "CRT" catch-all is racial animus and guilt. Curious though... where is a helpful or productive place to discuss history like mistreatment of Native Americans and other significant (and shameful) parts of American history? Seem like schools should be one. btw, I don't remember learning about Native American history until I read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown. And I read that on my own after high school. Additional btw... I am not directing the question about CRT to @rocketsjudoka specifically and do not mean to suggest he is trying to stop teaching about American history in school... apologies if it seemed like I was. I was posing it as a general question to call...
No one is trying to teach kids to feel guilty, but teaching the truth leads to empathy for those wronged in the past. Empathy for those less fortunate is sorely missing. Truth is we are on stolen land. Truth is the civil war was fought to preserver slavery. Truth is white privilege exists due to a century plus of systemic racism. Truth is kids need to be taught all this and more. Teaching the "Humanity" of the enslavers?!?.... I pity your ignorance. You sound like the fool from South Lake saying we should be teaching an opposing point of view to the holocaust. Holocaust = Genocide There is not legitimate opposing point of view... just like there was nothing humane about Slavery or Slavers.
u have poor reading comprehension, the discussion is on the white supremacists. u r confused, all mixed up German nationals, not German Americans. overwhelming majority of the japanese Americans interned were born in the USA. while the US Gov't made the effort to identify German nationals as aliens, for the Japanese Americans, it automatically assumed that they're all aliens, when in fact, the opposite is true and the Japanese Americans interned were not????? the Japanese Americans interned were farmers, businessmen, school teachers, professors, mechanics, US Govt employees, etc,, contributors to the American society. Japanese Americans married to non-japanese spouses were not spared, they're separated from their spouses and interned Again, u have poor reading comprehension, the discussion is on white supremacists not dotard Donald J Trump and his cronies. u need to venture out of your cave sometimes; u do not know about the 6 Jan insurrection ?
All I know is my school district paid some third party operation to send out a survey to parents asking questions like these. Notice how the questions were worded carefully to not say "do you want" school staff to teach any of these things. If you answer no, the implication is that "well, your school district needs to pay our think tank (that isn't even in your state and resides in NYC) to 'equip' your teachers with how to teach your children these things." I personally think the above is all nonsense and way too complicated to navigate for elementary students. And just to not confuse things, the survey mentions nothing about teaching history, which I believe should be taught truthfully, warts and all. I think teaching racism in a historical context is completely separate from what this survey is trying to address. And I'm not going to call out people who think schools should be focusing on these things, because that's perfectly reasonable. I just wanted to give a real world, actual example of the kind of steps school districts have started taking, which has been simplified under the "CRT" label.
Either you think there are only a few hundred white supremacists in America, or your objections are nonsense. Yes, even white supremacists are aware that there were Chinese railroad workers. All of this was covered in the link I posted. It wasn't even some long, in depth scholarly article, it was Wikipedia. Yes, mostly German nationals were interned, but also German Americans. Yes, Germans had been more integrated into American society than the Japanese, because more of them had been here longer. On the flip side, there were only about 130,000 Japanese Americans in 1940, and the vast majority of those over 35 were born in Japan. chapter2backgroundtorelocation.pdf (cwu.edu) So yes, German Americans were a far more integrated part of American society than the Japanese at the start of America's entry into WWII. None of this makes the internment of the Japanese good or even acceptable. Loyal Americans should never have been caged and had their property taken based on their race. It is one of many shameful episodes in American history. No, I understood just fine. Most white supremacists are not holocaust deniers. That is a very niche position even among racists. A good number of white supremacists are supporters of the holocaust and talk about doing stuff like that again. I am pretty sure those people were aware of the final reported vote total. They don't deny that those were the reported totals, if they did, what would they be protesting. They claim that there was voter fraud that led to those results, but they don't deny the result exists. This one, admittedly, may be splitting hairs.
