Yeah I’m venturing into Tinman territory. Caught my attention because many of my friends are cheeseheads and I’m an Aaron Rodgers fan from Cal

I do think we're "soft" just in that people are more ready to get upset than they were say 25 years ago. We're just not in a mentally healthy place, so getting cut off in traffic, insulted by a sports star, etc, gives people an excuse to show off rustled jimmies.

Sports culture is quite snowflakey and that snowflakery is a huge part of why it's so lucrative.

People's emotional investment, pride, bragging, and butthurt are part of the value proposition.

Athletes are among the most insecure people out there.

People are definitely more wound up now. Less sex, less physical contact, more screen usage with apps that suck enough joy out of you to make you want more.

I miss 25 years ago, it seemed like a more peaceful time. Everyone now a days is in a rush but back then you had to have patience...it was a slow but steady roll even with the 56k modems. Patience, integrity, and morals...a lot of people just don't have them anymore. :(

The word "*******" is 99.9% a subjective term, but I feel confident saying it's a fact that there are a far more assholes around these days than there were 25 years ago. Exponentially more. So we are not soft, we are just, for lack of a better term, ...........exhausted.

Assholes are and have always been in every corner of America. It’s just now we can see them front and center.

Having assholish thoughts doesn't make you one. Call it ******* potential if you want though. Only once you decide to act like one, do you truly become one.

"we see them front and center" = lack of common courtesy (ie keeping your inner ******* to yourself) = 25 years ago vs today

That’s true. I hate liberal twitter. I hate conservative twitter. I hate moderate twitter. I hate Facebook and WhatsApp and all the stupid ass fake news and memes. Instagram looks to be OK but I don’t use it. I also don’t use TikTok but I have heard it promotes what keeps us entertained rather than enraged like the Zuckerberg platforms. Even mainstream Reddit gets really preachy about no gray areas in transgender issues, religion is bad, and circumcision is a crime against nature.

These platforms promote and amplify the worst aspects of our humanity.

I don't think they're more assholes it's just that we are more aware of them because of social media. My grandmother used to say they never had suicides or very rarely murders where she lived but I explained to her it was more so a lack of information and people did the same thing she just wasn't aware of it...news travelled slow in the 40s...

Perhaps I should change my handle to "Nuevo Hombre de Estano"
    Or even better:
    "锡人"
