What am i missing? Why wouldn't Greinke go game 4? Also, i shut Garcia down and bring in Solomon... fresh arm with little scouting and looks by hitters... can go long in pen... Maybe you get lucky like Urquidy in 2019 and pressure makes him better... Hopefully the ws rotation could still lineup McCullers, Valdez, Urquidy, and Greinke with Odorizzi doing long relief...
Greinke can only throw around 40 pitches in a game right now. He’ll probably throw at some point in game 4, but he’s not going to give you 4-5 innings.
Injuries, even short term, don't heal because it's the the Playoffs. Pain from injuries can be dealt with in the Playoffs. The question is, are McCuller's forearm and Luis' foot about injury or pain? Not even considering possible additional injury, I have to assume they are sufficiently bad that they are lost for the remainder of the playoffs. If either or both return it is a bonus. But if you replace Luis now, he's gone for the Post Season. Reasons for optimism? Eovaldi and Sale are the only two 'ACE' caliber pitchers and even if we face them in the next three games in Boston, it will be on short rest AND we hit even good pitchers when we've seen then twice in a week. I'm expecting barn burners in Boston.
He probably will start game 4. Just know that his career stats at Fenway are horrible. He started the only game the Astros lost in Fenway this year.
You want to start a guy with no career MLB starts and has only pitched in 6 MLB games? In the Playoffs? LOL. That is may be DUMBEST take I've seen on this board.
Garcia made his first career start in the ALCS last year. Isn't Solomon's resume similar to Urquidy's when his first playoff start was in the World Series?
No. Urquidy started 7 games, pitched 41 innings. Solomon pitch 14 innings, started none. Urquidy pitched in the ALDS before the ALCS. Solomon has never made a playoff appearance and has been sitting for over a month. Garcia started and lost his game last postseason.
Pitching 2 innings. Why in the hell would you start Solomon? Someone who has NO postseason experience, 14 innings as big league in the ALCS? He has also has not pitched in over a month.
I think we should throw Tucker out there to pitch. Nobody has faced him, he has a decent fastball (if you consider his throws from the outfield) and he could easily provide 2 innings to start a game. I heard his little league stats were off the chart. After 2 innings you wouldn't even need to take anyone out because then you could plug in McCormick at pitcher for 2 more. Being a rookie he'd take everyone by surprise.
I'm not saying to start Solomon, just noting they've had some minimal experience starters start the prior two postseasons. In the other game 4 starter thread I said Odorizzi should start game 6 instead of Garcia.
