He’s not too short. He’s too short for that frame and build. Guys like Booker, Beal, Anthony Edwards last year all came in around that height or an inch taller, but had 20 pounds on Green, as rookies. If Green can add 20 pounds and maintain his athleticism then he might be an outlier, otherwise I think his frame just isn’t going to allow him to put on that much weight.

It's what he does. Cxbby has shown a great disdain for JG long before he ever arrived in Houston. He clearly suffers from confirmation bias and as such displays a tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms or supports his prior beliefs. And he's of the belief that picking the undersized, gator armed, womanly J. Green was a massive screw up with long term circumstances to the organization and will thus do what he can to keep that narrative alive and well.

Also it doesn't always have to be Al-P vs Green. As Rockets fans we should want all of this year's rookies to pan out as that's what's best for the team. I don't care if it's Sengun, Gup, Garuba or Green. For anyone to be so overly pessimistic this early into their development is just silly, but some people crave that need to be right above all else.

Yes but again just because you can’t think of one of these players or that you can’t think of a way it’s possible really don’t mean anything at all. It’s just discussion. It doesn’t affect his projection.

If you’re having trouble seeing the full picture, here’s the other side:

    - He is quicker than 99.9% of players his size with the ball in his hands.
    - He is not afraid to drive straight at the chest of the big man.
    - His shooting stroke is close to excellent. His step back is advanced at age 19.
    - He is a gym rat, extremely likely to add muscle and improve skills like handling and shooting.
    - High effort on defense is great so far.
    - Charismatic off the court, teammates love him.

I don’t believe being 1 inch shorter than Michael Jordan is going to be a factor in whether green makes it. He’s just struggling cause he got cocky plus he didn’t have the stamina to score and hustle on defense after nba practices.

He’s going to be a star scorer imo, unavoidable.

@i3artow i3aller You act like I’m smearing his name. The only one “keeping that narrative alive” is Jalen Green with his play.

And way to take my posts out of context, those were poking fun at the dress he wore to the draft, lightheartedly. Keep it up, you’ll have a great future in politics.

People are so simplistic , they hear the word athlete / athleticism and think one size fits all. It can mean a lot of different things - fast - top speed , quick acceleration , raw strength , endurance , high leaper , fast leaper ....

Green's a very good athlete / very athletic. He's straight line fast and can jump outa the gym. What he doesn't have that Ja does is a first step that gets him by defenders. He's going to have to develop that ... and that doesn't really require speed or athleticism. Deception and change of pace can get a defender out of position. Neither Harden nor Luka are particularly fast ....

In this league , everyone's a pretty good athlete .... He's got to learn to set defenders up so he can get by them rather than relying strictly on his own athletic ability. We've seen a few examples of that during the preseason .... but it needs to happen more consistently.

Michael Jordan’s weight in his prime was 216lb, which is 38 pounds heavier than where Jalen is starting from. I have a hard time believing Jalen can gain anywhere close to 38 pounds without affecting his athletic ability. Again, height, and that 1 inch is not the issue. It’s the height with this slight frame. If you are going to be this skinny you better be KD height. If you are going to be this short you better be built like a bull.

But you are right, it’s just discussion. I could be wrong.

James Harden Mr Efficiency, top 5 pick, 2 full years of college, off the bench against 2nd stringers not asked to carry a team. Rookie year shooting: 40.3 fg%. And famously a disaster on D.

Kobe only started 7 games combined his first 2 years in the league.

Give a 19 year old some time.

He's 19 so he might get an inch or two. Jordan, Kobe, harden all have a rediculous 6'11/7' wing span to pair with their athleticism. They also had really good shooting mechanics/form. Now I don't know if Green's arms will get longer but we'll see... hopefully we'll realize if he's the next MCW or "Kobe" before it is too late. Mcw won ROY and they shipped him out as fast as possible.

What’s the metrics on mamba-mentality? What’s the metrics on MJ’s competitiveness? Does Morey have a spreadsheet on those?

You guys are very primitive to think that only hard data and measurables lead to insight, I suspect you’ve fallen victim to Morey’s fraud, like many others here. Just to inform you: science has fully recognized the limitations of statistics relative to human brain pattern recognition, so there is a whole field to understand and emulate natural thinking and analysis. It’s called AI, google it…

I’m getting sick and tired of being lectured by morons. Forget MJ and Kobe. Just listen and compare JG to our own KPJ. One is serious, deep, thoughtful, manly, having overcome hard knocks in his life and managing mental health issues. The other is girly, ditzy, vane teen idol. This is an absolutely valid analysis. I’m not gonna let your moronic rants dictate how discussion is being carried out!

    @CXbby man, I'll say this.

I very much enjoy your Sengod posts. I mean that. That brand of enthusiasm is infectious around here. You really do love to see it. What I'm a little confused by is why you don't seem to see a similarly bright future with JG? Are the red flags really that glaring in your opinion? Did you just greatly prefer Mobley or Barnes with that pick and wish JG landed elsewhere?

Jalen has surely looked more green than Al-P out of the gate, and that's a testament of just how brilliant Alperen's highly advanced game already is, but why does it always have to be Segun vs Green with you? As an Al-P fan wouldn't you want JG to reach his highest potential, as you do for Sengun, for that would only benefit our Rockets hopes for a championship? The more gravity Green generates the more impossible it becomes to stop the indomitable Turk and the rest of our squad for that matter.

I guess in my mind it's already going to be such a gruelingly long loss filled (albeit wicked fun) season that it doesn't make much sense to zero in on the potential shortcomings of our incredible crop of rookies before their NBA journeys begin. Why limit their potential? Pointing out areas that need improvement is one thing. I get that. However it's another story altogether when people try to handcuff a player's ceiling before they've had a chance to blossom and develop. We must remember this is still very early days. Shouldn't we try to remain as optimistic as possible when the future is so glaringly bright? Personally I'm hoping Green and Sengun win Co-ROY, but I'm totally cool with them finishing one and two and in no particular order mind you. Then again, I'm a biased Rockets fan so what do I know.

Lol. People on Clutchfans labelled him useless when he was the best player in the league.
I mean.... let's just go on the other side of the fence.

    - He is quicker than 99.9% of players his size with the ball in his hands.
On the flipside he's worse than 99.9% of players his size defensively

    - He is not afraid to drive straight at the chest of the big man.
So that's a positive is it? Even though there'll be numerous turnovers as a result? No fear does not translate to good basketball.

    - His shooting stroke is close to excellent. His step back is advanced at age 19.
I mean we've just got to agree to disagree. His shooting stroke is the farthest thing from excellent.
Also we're loving step back 3s now are we? Sorry i'm just conditioned to think they're a terrible shot after years of commentary on Harden doing it.

    - He is a gym rat, extremely likely to add muscle and improve skills like handling and shooting.
Does adding muscle reduce his quickness that you've noted as a positive? asking for a friend.

    - High effort on defense is great so far.
This must be like a 'Ryan Bowen had high effort which is great' comment. Because I can think of about 9321085409 adjectives to describe his defense before I get to 'great'.

    - Charismatic off the court, teammates love him.

    LMAO what a terrible post.

No, James Harden wasn't 'famously a disaster on D' until he blew up in Houston and that youtube video came out.

Why just flat out lie? As if no one would pick you up on it hahahaha.

My enthusiasm for Sengun and doubts about Green were both from before the Rockets even drafted them, that’s just how I viewed them as prospects as unbiasedly as I can. Now as a fan of the team I’m ROOTING for both. When Jalen does something good I’m not nitpicking the bad, I’m celebrating it (like the second half of the Mia game). But that doesn’t mean I’m turning a blind eye to how I objectively view him as a prospect.

But you are right, I made my point, I’ll lay off. Look at it from my perspective. I love the Rockets and want them to do well. They draft a guy that I think is deeply flawed, and he’s playing bad, obviously I’m not going to be happy about it. But then again who the hell am I but some random guy in his underwear posting online. I don’t know sht, so don’t worry too much about it.

I have never heard anyone saying being unafraid of driving into contact as a negative for a guard. I have also never heard anyone that claim being unafraid to drive results in lot of turnovers. If anything you will draw a lot of fouls, or worst case scenario you get blocked.

Also can you name a single guard in NBA history that lost their quickness and athleticsim due to putting on muscle and strength at age 19. Every single athletic wing ever has put on muscle mass from being drafted to they are about 23-25. Not one came up in my mind that became slower as a result.

24 year old lebron was at his athletic peak after putting on a ton of muscle, same goes for Durant, Tmac, Vince Carter or star wing player.

Most NBA rookies come in under weight. Adding muscles gives them more explosiveness.

I mean your first point is just flat out wrong.

The constant blocks we've seen on Jalen's drives paint a very different picture.

High level discussion, valid analysis jeezus christ. U are bringing no value to the analytics of green as a player u are judging his career outlook solely based on how he looks and acts.

Like If u said something like his height, speed, shooting ability or anything that could b measured may b a sign to a poor career than that's a start.

girly, ditzy, vane teen idol are not intelligent analysis. It just prejudice and toxic masculinity. I said it before u r probably the same folks who believe women can't b marine/soldiers since they are too girly or good leaders cause they r too emotional.

Keep your bias misogynistic-like analysis to yourself.

No one fking measures clutch, mamba mentality, it's a bunch of sport jargon to hype up a player and the crowd.
