But given that the law is a state law, not a city law, why isn't this happening in Los Angeles?

    Completely different cities
Los Angeles is very spread out
San Francisco is a much smaller in area and enclosed

Also LAPD is well known to be heavy handed
    SFPD not so much

no Dirty Harry like in the 70s for sure

you know like Houston people don’t like being saying they are like Dallas by outsiders

But they have the same laws - so doesn't that show the issue isn't the law?

    @King1

dude You know cities are different and people are different

are Dallas Mavericks fans the same as Houston Rockets fans?

Is Manhattan different from the Bronx ??

I don’t want to explain to you the difference of cities in the same state

So you agree with me that it's not the law.

    please don't reference that user.

It’s the law and law enforcement
    SFPD doesn’t care
    LAPD will beat them silly

The LA gangs rob rich people of their Rolexes

you should travel and check out this yourself
    I travel a lot
So I know what’s real and what’s perception

I post local news for each city for a reason

You are brainwashed by corporations. They want you to think that the reason they are the victims of crime and government laws. You should show equal outrage when Walgreens committed wage theft and had to pay a $4.5M settlement. https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit...class-action-lawsuit-reaches-4-5m-settlement/

Compared to how much they stole from workers, how much is this petty crime?

I've been to SF and know Tenderloin. This has nothing to do with my post. Who is more evil? A rich corporation committing crimes (wage theft) or some people that are struggling to survive resorting to criminal behavior?

Amazing how some think normal capitalism is a crime. People like you scare me.

Perhaps you should voice some of that anger to the tech companies who made it unliveable for those making under 250k a year.

Wage theft is normal capitalism now? Sounds like you vouch for corporations so much that you missed the parts where they do things which are bad for society.

It happens all over California, it has more coverage in San Francisco and the Bay Area. We have out of control retail theft here in the central valley. It happens in LA and San Diego. It happens in the hills. As few as 9 years ago it was a felony to steal any amount if you had three or more prior convictions for petty theft. People would go to prison. Now it is a joke. Most of the stores will not even detain people anymore and call law enforcement, they just fill out an online report. San Francisco is a bit worse, because of their DA. Ultimately, for the past ten years the state has been swinging far more in favor of the defendants in terms of the laws related not only to punishment, but also things like criminal procedure. Some of this has been through the legislature, some through direct voting with the Ballot Proposition process, and some administratively through the DAs offices. These things tend to happen in cycles, where people think the criminals are being treated too harshly, the penalties are lowered, the charging is lessened, then people get fed up with the crime and the penalties increase and tough on crime politicians are elected. I suspect we are nearing the end of the cycle and things will start swinging back the other way.

Remember when those like you demanded $15 an hour min wage so people can have a livable wage?

Low skilled jobs will always be at the bottom, regardless of the pay rate.
