As much as I hate it, Facebook has utility with messenger, marketplace, events, groups, etc. It's also a photobook and journal.

Twitter doesn't have much utility to me. I guess it's a good place for large-scale, one-way communication (i.e. marketing and PR) but I have no use for that personally. Otherwise it's simply a gigantic, anonymous BBS for the entire world... which knowing what we know about anonymous BBSes and human behavior, is a horrifying thought.

What's wrong with America isn't social media, it's that people feel trapped in a system where they have to spend ****loads of money on college, housing, and health care thus working long hours just to live a life that is socially acceptable to their peers.

Social media is a product of that, not the cause.

The real problem is people who are too lazy to think for themselves as individuals
people are dying for imaginary positive recognition

Facebook is one of the leading causes of divorce.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technol...acebook-fuelling-divorce-research-claims.html

"We're coming across it more and more," licensed clinical psychologist Steven Kimmons, PhD, of Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, said in a statement. "One spouse connects online with someone they knew from high school. The person is emotionally available and they start communicating through Facebook. Within a short amount of time, the sharing of personal stories can lead to a deepened sense of intimacy, which in turn can point the couple in the direction of physical contact. I don't think these people typically set out to have affairs. A lot of it is curiosity. They see an old friend or someone they dated and decide to say 'hello' and catch up on where that person is and how they're doing."

A recent study, published in Computers in Human Behavior, compared state-by-state divorce rates to per-capita Facebook accounts. The study found a link between social media use and decreased marriage quality in every model analyzed.

It also found that a 20% annual increase in Facebook enrollment was associated with a 2.18% to 4.32% increase in divorce rates. The study’s model from the individual survey results predicts that people that do not use social media are 11% happier in their marriages than people that regularly use social media.

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology-science/technology/facebook-now-crops-up-third-5011205

In January 2015, the Mirrorpublished the results of a survey of legal firm’s caseloads, concluding that one-third of divorces were attributing their marriage failure to Facebook. Specialists at the firm examined over 200 cases and found Facebook was used by legal teams in just over a third of cases. The law firm revealed that many of their cases revolved around the fact that people had used the site to track down and get back in touch with exes, or posted information that contradicted claims about their finances.

It's true, if people learned critical thinking skills then propaganda on social media wouldn't work

Stop crying. There is plenty of opportunities out there. We all had to incur student loan debt if we went to college without a scholarship. That's life. Same with owning a home and health care, car insurance ect...None of those things are worthy of complaints. If you live your life looking for acceptance then I honestly feel sorry for you. I can tell you don't have a family or children

I'll make sure to tell my daughter you said hi. Everyone here understands I am talking about society, not myself....except you.

You clearly did not go to college and incur any student debt because you clearly don't have critical thinking skills - and that's a big part of what's wrong. You clearly didn't get married because you don't get laid otherwise you wouldn't have the time to troll people on the internet for 15 years. And you clearly don't have health insurance or you'd get treatment for your narcissistic personality disorder.

You've spent 15 years crying about some slight I gave you once upon a time. Get over it and grow up.

Twitter has a lot of utility if you're into stocks and crypto.

The thing is... when you disconnect, you realize the world moves on without it. Definitely a niche where people who get it and can leverage it are way better off.

If FB didn't exist something else like it would. Maybe MySpace, Grokster or some other might still be around. The genie is already out of the bottle with social media. I think the specific problems is algorithms that tend to push more extremist content and as we've heard directly from Haugen that is exactly what FB is doing.

Regarding Clutchfans D&D I'm presuming that Clutch doesn't have algorithms designed to push particular content and that D&D is minimally filtered. We still see the same issues that we do in other social media but not to the extent.

    I've got a good algorithm for @Clutch

    # of posts in the GARM vs # of posts in the D&D

if you ration is 0/100000 then you might not be a Rockets fan
which is the ultimate requirement of being here

Are you so small that you need to prove what you are to me with a "bet"?

Might want to look in the mirror before you call someone else a loser. And get that narcissism treated.
