He's saying all the right things, but man it's going to make it hurt even more if he decides to leave.
Loved that post-game interview. "He needs to get the facts, or you know what he can do." -Correa, 2021
I think, but obviously don't know, the he COULD have gotten $400 million if he didn't have a history of injuries. His "injury discount" will put him at $325 - 355 million.
It seems like at least some of the revenues for deep runs into the playoffs would help offset whatever we have to pay Correa to keep him. If Correa leaves, then our chances go way down and it even becomes questionable that we make the playoffs let alone make it to the LCS and/or WS. Why would you let the best SS in baseball walk away from this team?
Remember when people thought Correa was stupid/arrogant/not-loyal/whatever for rejecting the Astros' 5-yr $125MM contract or whatever it was?
He's not getting $400MM due to his injury history, but the reason everyone here suddenly wants to pay him now is his postseason performances. The other players with the biggest contracts - Machado, Harper, Lindor, Trout, etc - had no significant postseason success. So if that's the standard, it would make sense he gets paid more than those guys. But he won't because it's just a ridiculous number.
You should go look back at the early pages of this thread. Here's a sampling from just *one* random page I picked:
His not getting 400 million has nothing to do with his injury history. It’s just a ridiculous number for anyone at this point. Correa is not getting more than Trout because he’s been to the post season and Trout hasn’t. That is not how teams evaluate contracts.
Agreed - he's not getting $400MM. But the reason everyone is suddenly saying such things is specifically because of his postseason value. If they really believe that, it makes sense to pay him more than those other guys (not Trout, obviously, who's at a whole different performance level).
