Theis for being our Center and a big man do not like to rebound, he is not physical enough. He had only one rebound last night, and last year he only average 5.5 rebounds. If you start him because you feel bad you gave him all of that money....ok but Sengun need to average 30 minutes a night

I really like Sengun a lot - was hoping we drafted him. I think he is going to be a fine player, but I think we really need to dial back the expectations because as much as I like him, I don't think he is going to necessarily win ROY, or be a starter any time soon...but in the right matchup I could see him having some great games and I think he will be a great rotation player for us which is perfect considering where we drafted him....just don't think he is ever going to be an MVP or a perennial all star for that matter...hopefully that ends up being one of the coldest hot takes ever, but I really don't think I'm wrong on this one.

Right now I think I have seen more from Sengun than from Green. I am not saying he will be better down the line, but right now, he has the more complete game. He will struggle against guys like Embiid, sure, but I could see him having the better rookie season than Green (or Cunningham), with something like a 12 9 5 stat line.

99% of NBA centers will struggle against Embiid. He is the modern day Shaq O'Neal.

Sengun for being 19 really doesn’t get pushed around too much. He’s got a really solid base and uses his lower body really well to box out and get in position to rebound. When he gets better at avoiding fouls, which I think he will because of his high basketball IQ I think he’ll be good post defender. Even when he gets switched onto the perimeter, he stays engaged and tries to use his length to his advantage. The defensive concerns may be overstated

Guys saying he won't start any time soon, what have you been watching? That was probably the plan when they signed Theis, let Sengun adjust to the nba until after allstar break then start him, but hes way ahead of schedule especially defensively. He has looked better than Theis, now, already. He has not looked overmatched on defense at any point yet, whether that's summerleague or so far in preseason. He's 19 years old so I'm sure the bad moments will come, but at some point the narrative becomes just the narrative, where reality he has been one of the only plus defenders on the team. If you are going to knock him for defense and limit his minutes due to it, then why the hell are you starting and giving 30 mpg to the other rookie who gets roasted on defense all game?

    Small sample size alert

    Per 30 minutes he's averaging

    14 points
    14 rebounds
    6 assists
    2 steals
    2 blocks

Funny thing is, the best quality of his game is efficient low post scoring, where he's still struggling right now adjusting to nba length and athleticism. So instead he dominates with his passing, rebounding, and yes, defense. Once he figures out the scoring part and puts it all together it's going to be scary how good he will be.

His two best skills are rebounding and passing. Lack of size and athleticism will limit his ability to score at an elite level, I think. But I can see him developing into a mid-tier, Scola-level scorer. Maybe his passing ability will open up additional scoring opportunities though.

I’m pleasantly surprised at his defensive effort. He seems to be a sneaky good shot blocker.

He's very good with timing around the basket.

He reminds me of Vlade Divac--not a crazy athletic guy but he moves around well enough to keep the defense on their toes.

He’s definitely got impressive skill and feel as a scorer near the basket. I just think physically it will be a challenge for him to be super impactful in that phase of the game. But he’s really young and already quite competent there, so maybe I’m off on that.

Just based on the Miami game alone, Sengun looks to be more polished than most of the players on the roster, including players that have had previous NBA experience. Kid definitely has the feel for the game. Honestly, I hope all of our rookies excel but I'm rooting for Sengun the hardest.

He's doing all of this while playing only 16 minutes a night so far. My dummy math (basically x2 everything lol) tells me if he played twice as much, he'd average:

    14 points
    14 rebounds
    6 assists
    2 steals
    2 blocks
