I think Graveman was a good deal, but he's not shown to be a volume appearance reliever (everyone is a volume appearance reliever to Dusty except Javier). Yimi for De La Cruz is a good deal (though not a big Yimi fan). Maton...seems like Astros should have gotten more short term value for Straw. The problem with depending on making trades at deadline to fill spots is that sometimes it is a strong sellers market which makes big trades tough. I wanted someone better than Graveman, but the competition for trades was too tough.
They got a good catching prospect in addition to Maton. His name is Yanier Diaz and he’s played very well in A/A+ ball this year.
Would be awesome if the Red Sox can somehow pull off the upset, although it's unlikely. Rays are a well-oiled machine that the Astros will have a tough time against.
The Astros traded nothing of use at the deadline. Could DLC or Straw turn into a good OF? Of course, but the Stros have several of those. Could Toro turn into a good IF at some position? Of course, I said he'd be a player before and after that trade, but he does nothing for the Astros until Yuli retires, at least, and 1B are reasonably easy to find.
We beat them 4 out of 6 times this year. If we see them again great. I like our guys in the playoffs with Yordan this year AND a hot Tucker
Both he and Graveman had ERA's under 1.00, the 2 lowest in the league iirc. Who were these other guys we should have acquired?
I like your confidence and I agree that we can win against Tampa. That being said, the regular season don’t mean jack squat in the playoffs.
for sure. It’s just BS/so hypocritical that it’ll go down that way. Jose didn’t use it but didn’t stop it. Meanwhile Jeter is a a no doubter first ballot HOFer despite being on teams rife with steroid usage. The line is objectively blurry with the media and the moving of the goal posts is just laughable. Especially with the data where it is. Altuve was on a team that cheated, but he did not cheat…im guessing, what, at least 75% of all HOFers, if not higher, meet that same criteria—being on teams that cheated and/or skirted the line on scuzzy **** in some form or another. Would be different if he used the system as much as Marwin, Springer, etc….but it’s clear as day he did not use it.
Correct me if wrong but Framber was in trouble every inning except the second. We would have been down by 6 or 8 runs if this was an away game probably. That was a scary outing in my book. I hope Garcia fares better.
Maton looked great today (and did a nice job last night too). Supposedly the scouts love his stuff. Today was one of the first times I saw an extra “nasty” factor in him - it’d be nice if he has it figured out.
This group of Astros is special. Too many big performances to count. So many spectacular plays, so many clutch hits. no, they don’t win every single game or every game they should win. Baseball doesn’t work that way. But in the context of baseball, this team is elite. In skill, in athleticism, in poise, in everything. Yes, I want a perfect team with Cole, verlander, Morton and a lock down pen, plus these hitters, and we don’t have THAT. But we do have truly elite squad. superlatives are thrown around too lightly, but here it is warranted. the love ya blue oilers were good, but not this good. the harden rockets weren’t this good. The Yao rockets (I’m not gonna name the other dude who was there) weren’t either. the championship rockets were great, but in a different way because basketball is different and you can have good players orbiting the best. But this Astros lineup is stud after stud. Like other teams might think it’s unfair. It’s like the stacked GSW teams, lebrons heat, showtime lakers. Not the same because baseball is more random and great teams don’t dominate the same way as they do in basketball. But the pure volume and magnitude of star power is similar. maybe that’s why it is so enjoyable to watch this team. We know this is baseball greatness. (Crane, please pay Correa to keep this going).
he has a wonderful breaking ball. Great movement. He has struggled with location. If he figures that out for the long term he will be pretty good. Of course, this is true with many pitchers.
