Dear god I don't want to start anything, but what would you (the "all of you" royal "you") have had the Astros do? They had a glaring weakness in the bullpen that everyone was rightfully b****ing about, and they made Trading Deadline trades for: -the ~second best closer on the market -the closer off another team -an arm with useful stuff (plus a catcher prospect) What should have been done differently? Had they stood pat with the bullpen they had, what would the people be saying now? Would we have made the Postseason?
Charlie is the one that got away. He will always be an Astro to me. Will always root for him except when he's blanking us.
Should have traded for Kimbrel obviously. Reliever volatility is something analytics hasn't been able to solve. You think you know what you're gonna get, even the peripherals suggest you should be currently getting .... but you don't. There's just no crystal ball that can ever accurately predict when a reliever is gonna start sucking.
"DreamShook, post: 13739291, member: 32128"]so many things I learn from watching baseball; so many things to get a little bit of an edge in this sport is fascinating. Watching the post game show this one guy said the Astros watered the field for an edge? I like it.[/QUOTE] It be funny if it was trash cans full of water
I'm probably the last to say Great Win for the Astros. Things conspired to delay my viewing the game. First the Doctor moved my appointment to 1PM and then when I had just tuned in with the White Sox up 4-2 but with Astros on 2nd and third, my cable was disconnected to protect it from tree work. When it came back up, the Astros had a 9-4 lead and I just decided to watch the feed from the point I first began watching. Congratulations for holding serve and now on to breaking serve in Chicago!
I was on the road from Tyler to Houston. I had my wife drive so I could watch on my phone. Unfortunately, cell service on 69 and 79 sucks.
Going to be a mix of rich and infuriating when Jose’s HOF tour is slowed down by bozos downplaying just playoff success for ancillary, antiquated reasons like “there are more WC games” (see today’s broadcast). Jose is one of the best to ever do it…he has a ways to go still, and will need to continue being productive…but he’s building quite the resume and is one of the greatest playoff performers ever. Clutch as hell with stats for days…when the BBWAA fails to recognize it I think we riot
Fun that Showalter was saying (complaining?) during the game that the IF grass is cut so short these days and is incredibly fast...as we're watching several ground balls go through against Framber, who everyone knows is a GB pitcher, and then after the game Harold says we're watering the field too much to somehow benefit the Astros? They need to coordinate their dumbassery a little better. Showalter wins this discussion, because he's not really wrong.
With all due respect for Maton, Diaz was really a key to the deal and we will see the full benefit of that pert of the trade in a few years. I know THIS season, it looks like a one for one swap. At least we didn't go for Kendall like I wanted.
We will attempt to resign Collin in the off season. Morton just got a Brinks truck full of money to play for the Braves next season.
