    The best way around this, unfortunately, is to go all-in with your giftcard immediately. That way there's no balance for them to track and take away from you. Sorry that this happened to you btw.

    I buy the pre-paid Amex gift cards they can use without worry. I prefer the personal touch of buying a gift specifically tailored to the recipient but so many of the youngsters in the fam want gift cards.

    We'll keep you and your family in our thoughts, as well.
