Honestly, I don't care one way or the other, but Wall is a waste of a contract and roster space, so my thinking is if you can get Simmons for him, then you can flip Simmons for a piece that fits better later on....

To me, getting Simmons for Wall and a pick or so would be a BOOST to rebuilding.....

However, I am fine if we don't do it too......I just believe that at some point, as John Wall realizes no one wants him, he is going to cause us problems.

I’m not really advocating for acquiring him, but I think the argument can be made. The argument has gone on so long because his is a pretty unique case. Many people seem to be locked into some strict rebuild model that you have to only acquire expiring contracts and draft picks and win the fewest games possible for a four year period. Then when you’ve drafted your army of all-stars, you can start turning to free agency to fill in the gaps. Don’t do anything to disrupt this tried and true blueprint.

    Story:

Giannis brought the ball pass mid-court and gentle tossed it to the ref out of bounds along the baseline.

Jrue Holliday: "what the heck are you doing?"

Giannis: "I was going to shoot a 3"

Jrue Holliday: "oh, ok, now I understand"

Jrue Holliday: "it would have been a wasted possession." "Like a turnover."

    Giannis: "Yep"

Simmons is smart enough not to take that bait.....that's high basketball IQ.
    Something that Giannis apparently lacks.

I was just thinking, Ben Simmons was awesome as a rookie, we thought he'd be a top 3 player in a few years... At least I thought so, some other people were red-flagging him for his LSU career... But he was pretty awesome. Nothing I have seen so far (albeit very limited) from the top 3 drafted rookies in this year's draft impresses me as much as Ben Simmons did in 2017.

A source familiar with the conversations between Simmons’ camp and the Sixers told PhillyVoice that the only consistent or clear message this offseason was about the accelerated timeline Simmons has been evaluated on compared to other No. 1 overall picks. In most instances, agent Rich Paul and others have pointed out, top picks are sent to bad teams where they can figure out who they are and how their career is going to play out. Having missed his first year out of LSU due to injury, Simmons joined Embiid to form a partnership capable of winning 50 games right away, and the Sixers have been considered contenders (or at least pseudo contenders) at various points during the last three seasons, increasing scrutiny on his development.

The 76ers being too good, too quickly would be an odd gripe. Yes, that has come with pressure. But Simmons – the 2018 Rookie of the Year – entered the NBA ready to contribute to winning. His early success, both team and individual, got him onto three All-Star teams and earned him a super-max contract extension.

Simmons could ask Pelicans big Zion Williamson (zero postseason appearances in two seasons) or Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns (one playoff appearance and one playoff game won in six seasons) whether they’d swap circumstances. Former Pelicans big Anthony Davis (one playoff appearance and zero playoff games won in his first five seasons) might have thoughts, too.

This is a strange attempt at rewriting the past.

At this point in Simmon's career he was out for the season after suffering an injury in training camp before preseason began.

He got a full year of being in the locker room before actually playing his first game.

Simmons is awesome and I'm a fan, but that's a weird statement.

Drafted in 2017 but injured, did not play.

Think he's referencing his 1st full season in 2018 where he earned ROY and was All Star every season thereafter, 2× All Defense 1st Team, 2020 Steals Leader and 2× DPOY candidate.

    Too kind @Plowman

I've criticized Simmons before; but the more I research Simmons and Silas the more
I think they can be a perfect match. Just like Kevin Porter was misused & misunderstood
in Cleveland. D'Antoni is a coach that brought out the best in players offensively and I
believe Silas can as well. Maximize players skills and talents.

I heard that the Mavs with Silas were the most efficient offense the NBA
has seen in 19/20. Some Isolations, PnR, Cutters.

    Mavs 19/20
    Isolations.....Freq......ppp......NBA percentile.....

    Doncic.............15.0%.....1.02..................81.8...................
    Delon Wright...6.0%......0.94..................67.2..................
    Courtney Lee..11.5%...1.73..................100....................
    Brunson.............4.5%.....0.82..................42.0...................
    Seth Curry.........4.2%....1.00...................80.0...................

    Simmons...........5.2%......0.98................74.1..(19/20)""""""6.2%....1.00 ppp...75.3 (20/21)

So the Mavs ran through low frequency in Isolations in 19/20 but scored decent
NBA percentiles during those few Isolations.
    _______________
    Mavs (19/20)
    PnR (Ball Handler): Freq........ppp......NBA percentile.........

    Courtney Lee..............10.4%........1.40...................99.0......................
    Seth Curry.....................23.2%.......1.03....................88.7......................
    Doncic............................46.3%......1.04....................89.4......................
    JJ Barea........................49.0%.......0.90....................65.9......................
    Delon Wright...............30.5%........0.88....................59.5......................

    Simmons.......................3.5%.........1.06.....................45.4....(19/20)

So Mavs sported some high frequencies....not just Doncic.
This is why I feel Green/Porter Jr/ Wood/ Christopher will get their
crack at PnR Ball handling even with Simmons.
    ______________________

    Mavs (19/20)
    PnR (Roll Man).....Freq......ppp...........NBA percentile............

    Marjanovic................19.8%.....1.23..........................72.0..........................
    WCS.............................45.3%.....1.46..........................93.5..........................
    Dwight Powell.........27.0%.....1.35...........................86.6.........................
    Tim Hardaway Jr......2.1%.....1.27...........................77.4..........................
    Kleber...........................25.7%....1.45...........................92.2.........................
    Porzingis.....................15.6%...1.17...........................65.4.........................
    Finney-Smith..............7.7%.....1.00...........................32.2.........................

I didn't expect good number here for Simmons because that was t their forte.
Jimmy Butler Ast% was 18.0% while with Philly, Seth Curry 13.6 last year, Embiid
is around 17% each year and Tobias Harris is around 19%. I feel Simmons could
feast here with Porter-Green facilitating and ability to turn the corner as ball
    handlers.
    ______________________
    Mavs (19/20)
    Cut...................Freq.........ppp...........NBA percentile................

    Porzingis.............7.0%..........1.58................................93.3..........................
    Marjanovic..........8.8%..........1.67................................98.2..........................
    Doncic..................1.7%..........1.47.................................82.8.........................
    Delon Wright......3.9%..........1.43.................................79.0..........................
    WCS.......................22.6%........1.42.................................77.1.........................
    Kleber.....................8.1%..........1.38.................................69.2........................
    Dwight Powell...26.0%.........1.37.................................66.6........................

    Simmons..............13.9%.........1.34................................61.6..(19/20)........

These numbers are outstanding and the reason why I think Green/Porter/Tate/
    House/Kenyon/Theis/Wood/Sengun/Garuba/Christopher......and Simmons could
    all feast in this category.
    __________________________________

And Doncic was the lone Post Up threat for Dallas in 19/20 with
    6.6% freq....1.09 ppp.......83.8 NBA percentile.
    ____________________________________
I think people are mostly crying because they don't want to take away
    touches from Green/Porter/Sengun.......but winning should take precedent;
especially when all players will get their stats and learn from their mistakes
    this season in the process.

Just one humble person's take. I won't lose sleep one way or the other
over wether the Rockets get Simmons or don't. But I do feel he can be
successful with Green/Porter/Wood and while playing in the Silas scheme.
Worse case scenario is Silas makes Simmons look better and we flip
Simmons for the two first round picks we spend on him. Maybe even
    more in return?

P.S. if the Sixers/Rockets trade Simmons or Wall before the season or soon after.....
I believe it's because the league mandated it behind the scenes. No team has incentive
to do it on their own right now. Why wouldn't a team wait until the trade deadline when
Houston or the Sixers are far more desperate?

I don't know what people expect when we have a team of rookies and we just had the worst record in the NBA and expect the team to win 20-25 games again this year. What we saw last night is what I expect to see all season. This is what happens with young players and teams. They are going to be exciting and frustrating to watch but that is part of growing. This is how you get better, there are no shortcuts. This is not a team ready to go all in with one move with the wrong guy. The WHOLE team needs to be get better at D and that requires playing together more than one time and a ton of effort and mistakes. We are still going to have to cycle through a lot players not currently on this team. I already love this young team. We need to give them a chance.

    You can do both.

    The SMART teams do both.

This one way is the only way nonsense is cutting off our nose to spite our face.

What you said would sound good IF Simmons's contract was half he size of what it is. Do you really want a complimentary guy to make 35M per year until 2025?

I mean, if Wall's contract was half the size of what it is, would you want to attach 3-4 FRPs to trade him for someone like Simmons?

I said weeks ago this would be how the season played out ..... They'll score a lot of points but give up a lot too.

We'll see more than a few games where they score 120 and lose , very similar to last year.

You NEVER get better paying a $8M player MAX level money and eliminating your other opportunities to add a REAL MAX player. You also never get better sidelining a growing young star who is your PG just to appease a guy you acquire who makes max money. No SMART teams do not give MAX money to players who cannot shoot. Wise men and teams learn from mistakes not repeat them.

The Rockets have already said they are willing to get 0s across the board on the stat line from Wall for the next two years in return for paying him $90m. If they could trade Wall for Simmons, they would be getting Simmons’ stats and contributions at no additional charge for the next two years. In fact, there’s a chance they could actually get some money returned.

Now, the final two years he will be owed $75m. But that’s the only additional money the Rockets will be out on him. So, you are essentially getting 4 years of Simmons at around $18.7m per year.

His contract will do very little to hinder moves the Rockets want to make over the next 4 years.
