60000 film and tv workers authorize strike: Hollywood in trouble

I'm so far back on TV and movie watching this strike will have little effect on me. It will actually help me catch up on what other people have been watching.

 

Same, there's way too many tv shows and I'm behind on all of them, I'm still in season two of Lost

 

The entertainment business (or any business built on hope and dreams) is a cesspool of power and abuse. When people are pretty much willing to do anything to break into the business including sexual favors and small number of people holding all the power (Weinstein), you are going to get really F'ed up situations. I'm glad people standing up to "the man"

 

Funny seeing the self-righteous rich Hollywood elites stump for all their causes while they are working on sets with a bunch of folks who need to fight for a living wage... fascinating.

Most of the people in the industry that anyone knows (like Actors, and Directors) support the workers.

 

yeah but the rant about the rich elites fits better on a bumper sticker and mojo cartoons.

 

Then they can collectively leverage their position within the industry to advocate for them better. Going to be hard to make movies if all the A list actors and directors say they won't work until the workers are properly taken care of. I haven't noticed that. Glib statements about supporting the workers is one thing, making real sacrifices is another.

 

How are they going to manufacture their shitty sequels and reboots now?

 

I wish you had read my post. I said most of the industry people THAT YOU KNOW. Most folks don't know the actors and directors who are working as waiters, caterers, bartenders etc.

 

Are they vaccinated or is that a super spreader event?

 

Many do, and have. But depending on their own contract situations they are currently under contract and need to fulfill that obligation. If their contracts come up even more will refuse to sign if this issue hasn't been resolved.

As it is many or putting money into funds to help support those that will miss work during the strike.

 

I wonder if they blazed a trail for new jobs. I read somewhere Tony Danza became a teacher.
