Even if Cole gave up 3 runs in the first 2 innings, how do you take him out so early and make it a bullpen game? He’s just as likely to pitch shut out ball the next 5 innings. The Astros got the better Cole. The Yankees got the leftovers. And, they will get the Correa leftovers if they sign him. We got the best of Correa! :)

The Astros have advanced farther than the Yankees in the playoffs every year since the Astros moved to the AL.

Managers have quick hooks in elimination games since they don't want to let things get out of hand. I think it was because he had not looked great in the first two innings and just gave up a homer, single (although not that well hit), a walk, and was facing the guy who already homered off him in the first. Cole was also not going to go deep into the game even if he finished the inning and the Yankees have a pretty good bullpen.

I was surprised the Sox pulled Eovaldi when they did too. He had given up one hard hit ball (the homer) all game. They pulled him after a soft contact single, and they don't have a great bullpen. Brasier then gave up a hard hit, but it wound up working out when Judge was thrown out at home. I think Boone made the better call, but it worked out better for Cora.

We've gotten the appetizer out of the way, now to watch the Entree, Wainwright sending the Dodgers home.

I was at their first game in the AL (a win against the Rangers). Things went downhill quickly from there that season. I have a recollection Bud Norris was their highest paid player and they had signed Rick Ankiel for some reason.

Same! Was at the first two games that season. I think that was their only win against the Rangers that season. In the second game of that season Marwin Gonzalez saved us from a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th.

I think he had a big hit, but I don't remember if it was the GW one or not. I mostly remember thinking if Bud Norris is the opening day starter and highest paid player on the team, this is not going to be any better than last year.

I wasn't living in Houston at the time and not following the team too closely which I imagine not too many people were at that point. I happened to be in town and went more for the novelty of it being the first AL game.

Did cole just have a bad game or is he the type of pitcher that needed the sticky stuff to be elite?

did you watch the game? Boone clearly made the right call there. Cole looked overwhelmed, was sweating like crazy, had already given up 3 runs and multiple hits then he put two on with no outs.

reliever came in and got all 3 outs including a double play to save the inning.

Go look up his starts from after the "ban" on tack. (after June 21)

I have no idea what they are, I want you to go look them up and report back.

Dodgers are screwed without Kershaw and Muncy for the playoffs. Might as well dial it in.
