I'm guessing the PHEV Sorento is going to be pretty popular. I'm hoping orders for it start up soon. PHEV 7 seater? It's not RAV4 fast but it's better than most hybrids I think.

How many folks do you know that have tax liability at the end of the year to actually use the tax credit? Only folks I know of are ones that own businesses where they can fudge their numbers up to take advantage of it. What about the regular consumer? Tax credit doesn't seem to be all it's cracked up to be unless you're leasing.

That's a good point. I am self-employed so I can adjust my witholdings easily. Though most employed people should be able to submit a new W4 to their employer to change their withholding then change W4 again afterwards. It's paperwork and requires planning, but it should be legal and doable.

edit: this won't work for all income level and would change with the number of exemptions (kids/dependent), so it's definitely YMMV.

You only need to make like $60k to receive the $6,000 tax credit. It's your total liability. Your withholdings throughout the year doesn't matter. Say after deductions, your liability is $10k, but your work has withheld $12k. You will get your normal $2k refund + the $6k EV credit.

Now if your tax liability was $5k, your work withheld $10k, you'd only receive $10k back. You don't get the extra $1k from the credit since your liability is less than the credit. That's the difference between a tax credit and tax rebate.

It has has more storage space than their mid size suv Santa Fe. One of the better selling features on the vehicle

AUSTIN, Texas, October 2, 2021 – In the third quarter, we produced approximately 238,000 vehicles and delivered over 240,000 vehicles. We would like to thank our customers for their patience as we work through global supply chain and logistics challenges.

...a design that takes advantage of the lack of an engine would pique my interest.

I am in no way opposed to EVs; I welcome alternative technologies. But to answer the question, I need multiple things:

More variety and personality in the cars. I drive an Alfa Romeo, I just like distinctiveness and not being one of the horde. This will naturally happen over time, but regardless we are far, far from EV's being designed in a tasteful and classic way body-wise, IMO.
Understanding of resale value and lifespan of the cars.
Understanding of whether power grids can cope with a sudden (or even prolonged) shift to most people driving electric.
Understanding whether battery production is sustainable, or just another ticking timebomb.
Understanding of what happens to existing ICE cars and engines; do they all become waste? Can we recycle them somehow?
And obviously, a continual decrease in recharge time.

I’m a believer , 95% chance our next car is an EV. It just makes no sense to use gas cars when you consider the economics and logistics of driving combustion vs EV.
