How does that explain Simmons poor free throw shooting?

He didn’t work on his offensive game in any meaningful way. He may have been shooting with wrong hand the entire time…. How does that happen?

It doesn't.....but many players have shot poorly at the FT line and have overcome. I have already
posted that Simmons was at 67% from the free throw line until about 3/4 of the season was over.

The hack-a-shaq plan works if the bad FT shooting player is 50% or worse. It's ppp
points per possession.........some players come down each offensive possession
and make less than 0.90 ppp in Post Up or Iso or PnR or hand offs or off screens, etc.

Jimmy Butler common denominator between Philly and Miami: player occupying the
"Dunker Spot:" Simmons while in Philly and "BamBam" while in Miami. Stats higher in Miami.

What's is the difference between Philly and Miami for Jimmy Butler? In Philly he had Two
Post Up hungry monsters occupying the paint. T Harris and Embiid. Stats higher in Miami.

I'm not a plummer but I can ask one tomorrow........how do you unclog a pipe?
I'm pretty sure the answer won't be, add more hair. Clogging the paint doesn't
work either in today's NBA game of "Pace and Space."

For those who don't know what I mean about "Dunker Spot" in basketball.

It doesnt always go well with post up games

And many players who shot poorly from FT haven't overcome..... He was scared and everyone knew it. It's about putting in the work. Would you consider work ethic to be Simmon's strength? I wouldn't based off what I've seen.

I can understand that the Sixers clogged the lane, but that doesn't explain why Simmons didn't improve offensively at all. That doesn't explain why he didn't adapt his game. That doesn't explain how he got worse at shooting. That doesn't explain the embarrassing passed up dunk in the playoffs.

He has THE YIPS. NO thanks.

LeBron has been considered a poor free throw shooter until recently......he has had a reputation
of avoiding the ball in the fourth quarters as a result. Needed DWade, Bosh, Kyrie, Love and
now AD to finish games because he was "SHY" at the free throw line.

Some would say LeBron has overcome that now near age 29......Simmons is 25. Would you say
LeBron was lazy......didn't put forth the effort? He has been considered the best in the game over
the last decade. Hasn't LeBron overcome that....by putting good players around him. That's what I'm
saying about Simmons. Put Porter/Green around Simmons. Put decent players around Simmons
    and he will be fine.

Just don't put him with Post Up junkies clogging the paint. That's the bad mix.

Yea.... but I've watched Lebron single handily drag the 2007 Cavs to the NBA finals. I watched Simmons pass open a wide open dunk because he has the yips.

Again.... the Sixers situation isn't an excuse to not improve your offense game at all. It's obvious he doesn't put in the work into his game. I just find it inexcusable for a max player, which is the contract we would be trading for.

What are you talking about? Lebron reached fhe Finals with offensive luminaries like Zydrunas Ilgauskus, Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden when he was 22 yrs old. He been scoring over 20 since his rookie year how is this like Simmons?

Since when was Lebron scared to shoot? Smh. Bron'a a career 73% ft shooter yeah that's bad for guards but that is far from Ben Simmons level.

As per stats Lebron has hit more clutch shots than Kobe or Jordan over his career. Get your facts straight SMH.

I agree with almost all of your points but I don't think this is the mental block that people seem to be saying. Watch Nash or others training and they will tell you it is all about form and technique. Simmons is not stupid, he is smart. He doesn't shoot because he knows he sucks at it. Dwert and others have hit a good clip of shots in various situations in practice but in the game when you are out of position, guarded, tired, etc the form and technique dictate the chances of the shot going in. Remember when Portions would get hot from 3 but most of the time wasn't because he had that flat ass arc to his 3 that looks almost like a straight line. It's that type of thing. Simmons wants to be an efficient player and knows if he shoots anything other than a layup or dunk he is going to look bad. No player practices or puts forth the effort throughout 5 years and doesn't learn something. He is 5 for 34 at 3s in the NBA. Over 90% of his shots are within 10 feet of the basket. This is not a stupid or a scared guy. This is a guy with a known flaw of shooting with the wrong hand. He leads in 3PT assists because he has no intention of finishing in the lane if contested. There is a large opportunity cost there missed that gives lie to that stat. Simmons couldn't have found a team more suited to him than Philly. He made life incredibly difficult for Embiid.

I was a lefty that shot with an impure form. When I shot the appropriate way it felt wrong but the ball went where it was supposed to go consistently just not in the basket. At one point I could hit 7 out of 10 3 pointers from a spot using the bad form that gave me more power. One time hit 97 of 100 FTs. It didn't give me any sense I could be an NBA player. I had bad form and couldn't hit much in actual games when moving. No mental block just not any good.

If Simmons truly cared about getting better there are endless coaches that could have had him shoot 1000 FTs a day with the right hand to get comfortable with the proper form that would have translated also to fixing his jumper. Instead he gets to a spot he has memorized in practice and like in a 3PT contest can sit there and hit a few. Doing it the right way might take him 2-3 years to go from 60-70% FTs and 20-30% 3PTs but that is how to do it. He has everything guaranteed already so why would he change? If he would have taken that risk he wouldn't have been ROY or an All-Star, he would have been a taller MCW.

    It's a matter of opinion

The Dunker Spot often gets challenged from that spot. That play was very similar to the Dunker Spot play. And Simmons has a pass first mentality much like LeBron. I can't say LeBron may have done the same thing at age 25. LeBron was often called too unselfish in his early stage of career.

And I don't know why the player Simmons passed the ball to didn't get a dunk or basket and the foul.? All I know was Simmons was kicking @## guarding in unguardable Trae Young that was giving a good defensive player in Thybukke fits and a player in Danny Green heck. Danny Green has a reputation has a good defender. Simmons was using all his energy in that effort which kept the series as close as it was.

Yeah I've seen LeBeon carry a team one year. But they didn't win it all that year. JR Smith was made out to be the scapegoat that year. I believe he passed as well instead of dunking a ball LeBron was seen doing a dunking motion at him. Or was it a why didn't you foul motion?

I know, it's ok to see LeBron win with two true stars but we don't want to see Simmons do the same. I see Embiid as good....good enough to win MVP, but I don't think posting up with Embiid wins you many championships. The Bucks did it just now in moderation and spread out between Giannis, Brook, Portia and Middleton. But Embiid is too methodical and slow in his post ups.

I did mention when Morey got the job that he should make a choice last season. Go with either Embiid or Simmons. I would have gone with Simmons. But I knew then you can't go with both. I would have gotten more for Simmons then. Oh well, that's one of the few times I can say I would have done better than more.

Simmons was 66% from the FT line thru 34 games last season. Since he played 52 games that's thru 59% of his game last season. The final 24 games or so brought him down to 61%. LeBron shot 69.8% last year. Big whoop.
That's not far from the 67% Simmons was shooting either. Do you know if Simmons hurt his wrist or something. I can say Simmons out plays LeBron defensively.

LeBeon has shoot high 60's from the line in each of the last 3 seasons. 69.8%, 69.3% and 66.5%. When you are through sucking off LeBrons knee caps then I will talk to your dumb @@@ again Get out of here.

LeBron played 45 games to Simmons 52 games.

Here is the play in question:

Whats isthe real issue? What's is with all the crying?

It's a 2 point difference in the game in the fourth quarter with Thybulle going to the line to shoot 2.
3'29" left in the game. Did Thybulle miss both free throws? Then it's on Thybulle!!!!!!

Sixers had 3"29" to make up for that one miscue of a play if that's the case. Team problem.
Just like if you miss up a play in the first minute of a game. You have the entire rest of the game
to make up that one play. I'm sure both team made errors......every game.

It's dumb to hang the entire series on this one play that resulted in the Sixers going to the line
for two. A dunk would have been two points as well. It's not like Simmons was shooting a three
point shot and converting. It's just sour grapes that people are looking for anything to complain
about. As if it's 10 seconds left in the game. Bunch of baby whiners.

    Here it is.

J.R. Smith ran out the clock in game 1. Had 3 other games in the series to make up for that.
But no, that's it.....series over. Lame. It's a cop out by the Cavs team.

Again I was mostly addressing the FT question I was asked. People can overcome.

It pissed off Simmons that the fans, coach and teammates threw him under the bus.

For him to say he will never play for the 76ers again is an indication of that.

As a couple of Rockets you tube videos have mentioned in trading for Simmons topic:
Ben Simmons has the most to prove of any NBA player right now.

No more riding the coattails of number 1 and number 2 options of post up happy Embiid/Tobias
Harris who operate in the area Ben Simmons need to be. He has to get out of their shadows to
maximize his potential. Like any player nowadays, to get to the finals.....who are you surrounded
by in terms of player personnel.

I don't equate Simmons to LeBron except for the FT factor and how LeBron has been know
to fear having the ball in his hands due to his fear of shooting FT's in the past.

I actually equate Simmons to Giannis. Both can take the ball out to mid court and then turn and
get a running start and the opponents have to build a wall of defenders at the free throw line
to stop them. Plus Giannis is not seen as a good free throw shooter. This 10 second count
violation being called in the playoffs and fans actually counting out loud to 10 seem to
actually help Giannis shoot free throws better. The opposite effect fans were hoping for.

Yes, teammates Ben has matters. If he can been the prime initiator or facilitator with good
3-point shooters on the perimeter.....then he will be trouble. Not sure of the King's roster
or personnel......I can say KAT is a good fit next to Simmons since KAT like to be a perimeter
player on offense and Christian Wood is an excellent pairing for Simmons.

I've mentioned how Wood was misused last season playing the 5 predominantly.....well Silas
and Wood are both coming out and saying Wood will play more of the 4 this year.

If Simmons had Eric Gordon shooting 3's well and Jalen Green shot his 40% in CnS 3's along
with Porter jr the way he shot 3's with the Cavs of 40.7% in CnS 3's.......and Kenyon shooting
39% from 3 like he did in the final 12 games of the season. Tate improves his 3-pt shooting.
Oh yeah, Simmons could kill it in the Silas system. Players cutting and slashing to the rim.
Oh la la......it would be a thing of beauty.

We could trade for him using no more than 2 first round picks but flip him for 4 first round
picks after Silas and John Lucas work with him. John Lucas the basketball whisperer.

I just can't get on board with that. Simmons isn't Lebron, someone who has improved each year. What Lebron did in 2007, Simmons coudn't do if his life depended on it. It goes beyond just free throws, but the lack of work ethic.

It pissed off the fans, the coach, and the teammates that Simmons sucked so bad in the playoffs and couldn't bothered to be accountable.

Yea but Giannis has balls and Simmons doesn't.

That just seems pretty delusional to be able to outbid other teams with 2 picks.... Why would the Sixers take such a low offer?

Also, flipping for 4 FRP picks seems pretty far fetched.[/QUOTE]

Just concentrate on the free throw aspect.....has he (LeBron) improved? He shot 66% three years ago
and teetering under 70% since. That's not Olajuwon who struggled in college from the FT line
    and improved slightly over time.

They loved him when he was giving Trae Young fits on offense while the great defenders
of Danny Green and Thybulle got their butts handed to them by Trae in game one.

It takes a lot of energy to defend Trae Young. It's tough for most point guards let alone
6'10" PF's. Where was Seth Curry. This is why I say B.S. to catering to him. Get hm a lesser
shooting Seth Curry that play defense.

Simmons would wipe the floor with your behind......and say not enough height. As he can say with
most NBA defenders trying to guard him as he gets a running start from half court. You would be
crapping bricks. Screaming help!!!! Help!!!! I need help!!!!!

Simmons has t had the luxury of no Tobias Harris or Embiid for very long.....so you just don't know.

@Plowman was talking All Star bid......I'm with him.

Last year's All Star roster mixed pick for teams from East and West:
    Centers/PF's:
    Embiid
    Jokic
    Zion (PF)
    Vucevic
    Julius Randle
    Anthony Davis
    Gobert
    Sabonis
    Ben Simmons

I would be willing to bet in an open offense way from Embiid and Tobias Harris
that Simmons increases his stats offensively and is selected to the All Star game (barring injury)
over Gobert, Sabonis, Ju!just Randle, and Vucevic.

Making it 4 straight appearances to bring an All Star. But let's see which team gets him.
I think it is foolish that the T-Wolves are saying no to providing DeAngelo Russell.
That's a joke. Russell will never amount to anything close to what Simmons could give them.

Simmons isn't Lebron or Olajuwon..... that's just slander. You want to just focus on FT but disregard the mental aspect and work ethic behind FTs.

Why hasn't Simmons put in the work? Why is Simmons afraid of contact in the 4th? That's mental.
