I don’t remember having a Taco Bell until the 90s. I do remember Wendy’s having a taco salad and like a big buffet that had a bunch of different foods, like spaghetti and chocolate pudding.

A good waiter/tress knows to keep an eye on their tables but not be intrusive. Good waitstaff is a golden commodity in the restaurant biz, almost anyone can do it, but not everyone can do it well. Your "raise flag" idea eliminates the issue.

I miss the old school tostada at Taco Bell. I believe they have a spicy version now that I don’t care for. I will definitely try Taco Casa if they come to town.

I remember the Fancy Wendy's back in the day!

True story: I never ate at a Taco Bell until I was 40. I've still never had a McDonald's hamburger (breakfast sammiches are solid), we were a Wendy's, JITB (ultimate cheeseburger FTW), Whataburger family.

I never really ate there as a kid, but when I moved to the DFW area back in the late 90's I ate there when I didn't really didn't know much about the area since it was basically a walk across the street from my extended stay suites. The tacos were 49 cents, I think. I tried them again for the first time since then a couple of years ago. Meh. Don't get the appeal when I can go get some street tacos or something from a taqueria. I usually go to a local gas station with a restaurant built into it for some soft tacos that taste great. They actually taste good, give you peppers, and I love their al pastor. I haven't been in over a year, but they were around $1.69 each and had way more meat and flavor than the hard tacos at Taco Gel.

Been to Hugo's 3 times and was underwhelmed every time. Went to Caracol once but only for drinks; it's a sister restaurant of Hugo's as is Xochi. Teo's does have the best nachos in Houston.

Only know about Larry's in Richmond. Robb Walsh and I talked about their cheese enchiladas, and he showed us the recipe at a cooking class he did at his house.

    Late 80’s & early 90’s dining…
(when I could only afford to eat one time a day)

Wendy’s salad bar by far my favorite.

The AYCE Waffle House “scattered smothered & covered” hamburgers & breakfast food.

    Pizza Inn or Hut buffet
    Hartz chicken

Going to Taco Bell was really hard times but the “green” bean burrito never failed because 3 of them would work for the day for less than $3.

The oldest “sit down” restaurant in West Houston.

Possibly the most overrated enchiladas in the entire State of Texas.

I think there is still a panchos near almeda mall. I haven't had a sopapilla in 20 years.

I trust Robb over you, but I'm game to listen.

    What's your favorite cheese enchilada?

Their chili is lame, fit for children, geriatrics and patients recovering from surgery.

I've been there several times and have been underwhelmed each time.

Do you have a better choice or do you not like them?

Man, I don't know what's good in Houston anymore, it's been 15 years

But if you must ask, my chili is vastly superior. Used to love Teotehuacan and Spanish Flower and Chapultapec and El Tiempo and Ninfas (of course)

You can still get enchilada ala Felix at State of Grace.

I've done them myself. The chili gravy I almost always mess up the first time. Luckily all the ingredients are cheap enough to do again.
