Or they are the new Republicans, and ensure that a bill that got 70 votes in the Senate dies and nothing gets accomplished. This is what the House GOP did during Obama when we could have had comprehensive immigration reform (70ish votes in the Senate) and solved so many problems that have lingered over the last decade.
He didn't really say that - in July, he said that's what he was definitely comfortable with. Schumer said he would try to move him up. The real revelation here is not the number, but that Manchin has had a position since July. The focus since then should have been getting progressives and him/Sinema on the same page. I don't think those care too much about whatever game of chicken the progressives are trying to play. If the bills die, Manchin will have not supported a bill he didn't believe in. The progressives will have killed a bipartisan bill they fully supported. I don't think they understand their leverage correctly - they aren't going to pressure Manchin into supporting $2 trillion in spending.
The solution to all of this is Progressives winning more seats in Congress..... But 2020 wasn't exactly a great year. The centrists have not been torpedoing the entire thing but negotiating as things always happen. We got a Covid Bill... we got a bipartisan China Bill that invests in R&D and semicondutors....we got small a bipartisan infrastructure bill.... You Progressives are just being sore losers and have a very naive view of how legislation has always worked.
This.... When the GOP had control they passed tax cuts then peed and went bed..... The problem is Progressives are idealists and don't really care for how legislation actually works. Progressives didn't do well in 2020, but still expect to how their way? Hey Progressives...... fix your messaging and win... because right now you are acting like the left wing version of the Tea Party.....
This is a gross distortion of what's been happening and you know it. And may I remind you that: 1) The priorities that "centrists" are trying to torpedo (and yes, that's the only way to describe it) are extremely popular with the American voters 2) These same priorities are supported by our President Really sick and tired of you so-called moderates (why don't we call you what you really are - conservative corporate whores who would vote Republican if the racism wasn't so explicit) ****ing things up with your lies and deception.
I thought it was common knowledge that Manchin/Sinema would not go along with the $3.5T bill. I mean the negotiated like hell for the infrastructure bill that is sitting in Congress's desk, why do we believe they were going to go along with the $3.5T bill? Did progressives sit with them during negotiations of the infrastructure bill and got their word to go along with the $3.5T bill and now they are turning their back on it? This whole finger pointing **** is stupid. We wouldn't even be able to have these conversations if we didn't have a simple majority. Both sides of the coin on the democrat side are going to have to compromise that $3.5T bill. Perhaps they should of worked harder from a few months ago to make sure this was nailed down. I'm talking about both sides. Manchin/Sinema have been pretty damn consistent on where they stand on spending, so lets stop pretending as if this is new information that we are receiving. Every body in the party needs to get their heads out of their asses and make sure both of these bills pass. Sanders needs to continue working with Manchin/Sinema and figure out where the differences can be worked out. I'll be pretty pissed if both bills burn and do not pass.
It's really not..... Congress works by having votes..... You Progressives don't have votes. ^^^This is a gross distortion of the issue. 1) You Progressives haven't been able to figure out how to translate messaging to legislation. You don't appreciate that the devil is in the details and conservatives keep outmaneuvering you. For whatever reason you think because your ideas poll well, they should just been rolled out without a care of the details.... And you keep losing when it matters. It sucks, but conservatives have tied cancel culture and socialism to your lot. How do you overcome that? 2) They are the priorities of the President but at $3.5 trillion? I think the President's priorities are to get something done instead of nothing. It seems far more shrewd to pass something like Climate infrastructure and then campaign on childcare, eldercare, etc during the midterms. Just because I am a moderate Dem, doesn't mean I like Manchin. It's no coincidence W Virginia is a bottom feeder state.
Again, this is a gross distortion. It was made clear from day one by the leadership of the party that the infrastructure bill and the reconciliation bill were going to be tied together. This is necessary because simply put, the GOP will not vote for any Democratic bill. Manchin and Sinema have had multiple opportunities to negotiate with the party but have chosen to undermine their own party in the press instead. And it's abundantly clear why when you see what they're pushing for - removing the ability of Medicare to negotiate drug prices is but one key example. And frankly, I'm sick of it. I'm sick of moderates holding **** up in order to enrich themselves. I'm sick of moderate voters tolerating this garbage because they were programmed as children to hate the government and won't listen to reason. We are not talking 3.5 billion in one year - we are talking 1/10 of that per year. This is less than half of all defense spending. If you want to look at reducing the deficit (you don't - we all know it), start with the $715 billion we spent on defense last year. Stop excusing the bad faith of these crooks.
America elected a moderate Dem in Joe Biden.... not a Progressive. Major legislation always start at a high number and is negotiated lower....
You don't like him but you support him. Maybe you should compromise for once instead of letting your greed and ignorance drive your vote.
LOL. How do I support him? I live in Texas and vote Democrat. I would gladly love for Manchin to be replaced. You know nothing about what you speak of. You Progressives didn't win 2020, moderates did, so stop acting like you have some carte blanche mandate. I'm not sure what world you live in which the losers don't have to look for more ways to compromise. Fix your cancel culture wing of progressives and maybe you can actually win.
Are you attempting to fit as many straw men into a single post as possible. Cancel culture as you imply isn't even a real thing. We just live in a world now where the publicity of someone who's raped someone or said something racist faces consequences on a more global level. I don't see that as a bad thing. If being moderate means wanting people like Amy Cooper to face no consequences, then why not just call yourself racist douchebags? Furthermore, the current bill is not a progressive bill - otherwise, we'd be seeing Medicare for all, cancellation of student loans, free child care for all, several new levels of the top tax rates (much higher than the current 39%) and a wealth tax. None of this is in either bill. What is being proposed is as moderate as can be without literally doing nothing. Many moderates (the good-faith ones, at least) support the bill as it exists now. Our President supports the bill as it exists now. The American people support the bill as it exists now. This is as much of a majority as can be given the structure of our voting system (at least until a new voting rights bill is passed - something else Manchin and Sinema are holding up by refusing to make an exception to the filibuster). Basically, there are two problem children here, and any time someone throws out misleading information that supports their cause, they are supporting them. That's how you support Manchin and Sinema. And yes, I support all the Democrats (progressive and moderate) who after compromising for decades are saying "Enough!" to the bad faith actors in their party. Finally, progressives are not the losers - the losers are the American people when the bad faith moderates betray them.
