I keep thinking had the Astros lost in that fashion (giving up 2 bases loaded walks), there'd be a tremendous amount of second guessing on the managerial decisions. Cash decided to walk Diaz to set up the DP... but essentially, he set up the situation where you could score a run with a walk. He also didn't really throw their best out there, and there was some speculation on the broadcast as to whether or not he was experimenting and seeing what guys could possibly be entrusted in more high leverage situations. Maybe Dusty was doing something similar with Maton... although I thought he did his job by getting Cruz in the 8th. Asking him to come back for the 9th in what was now a tied game was highly (and rightly) questionable.
I’d think TB is just experimenting on who will get the last few playoff spots. They have the best record locked up and don’t have to let the Astros light up their best arms just yet.
Technically they don't have the best record locked up... or they're about as locked up as the Astros have the AL West locked up.

When I went to bed, all those pitches were strikes to the Astros and Balls to the Rays. What happened? Did the Umpire get switched out for some reason?
McCormick and Castro didn't give the ump any choice. They fouled off a ton close pitches, and the pitches off the plate were obvious. They were two really good at bats in a row by those two guys.
