Stop hating on Mills already. He's done better than Watson did in his first 2 games and first start. Add in the fact that he played a third as many games as Watson prior to the NFL. He's green and inexperienced, but has a lot of potential. Give the kid a break. He's as green as it gets. At least he wants to play, and isn't being a jerk off like Watson. Yes, pun intended.
I thought he had an ok game. Looked better without the kid gloves when they went uptempo. I get that Culley wants to be a running team, I agree with it. But need to keep them honest. Carolina has a defense that is going to make some good QBs look bad.
Really we can only hope he’s as good as Watson. Watson is quicker and more slippery, better off script. Arm talent is elite. Build not as good, might feel a little more of the impact. Mills has good feet, good straight line speed and can break some tackles with some elusiveness. Not as quick as Watson, and not as agile because he’s a bigger QB. His 3 cone times says he’s got some wiggle for a big guy. Arm talent is strong, remains to be seen if he can be as accurate as Watson. It looked like they told Mills to not force the ball, he’s had a habit in limited playing time of being a little too aggressive.
Don't expect miracles is all I'm saying. The kid is super green. Not near as much experience as Watson had prior to the NFL.
The truth is a lot of “Texan fans” want Mills to fail simply because he’s not Watson. Doesn’t matter if the kid lights it up the rest of the season.
Well hopefully he doesn't get injured and go out the rest of the season like Watson did his first year. Hopefully he gets better with more experience. That's all we can ask at this point with Watson quitting on us like a jerk.
I definitely don’t want Mills to fail. But I do want the Texans to fail so miserably that they sell the team to someone who is competent enough to create a winning football team.
I've got some fake gold I'll sell you at real gold prices. It's way too early. Stats are stats. The eye test tells a different story. Typical fan overreaction. These are two totally different quarterbacks.
I think there's more of the opposite. More Texans fans want to believe in Mills because he's not Watson.
Can’t be both ways. I was told the majority of fans don’t care that Watson is a sexual predator. Now you’re saying they want Mills to succeed because he’s not Watson? Don’t buy it.
In a poll here, only 25% of the fans said they don't want him off the team. Where'd you get this info? Most people want him gone, they just want full value. If we're going to make assumptions, I would assume many of the no's simply want to let the process play out.
Eye test to me, as I've stated, shows some promise. He definitely looks like a rookie. He definitely has good tools and can fix things to become better. It's also very early to draw conclusions (despite my previous thread). Let's give him 4 or 5 games and see. By his fourth game, Watson was taking over and was the entire offense. That's the difference in the eye test. But as I said, that's game 4 or so for Watson vs game two for Mills (were counting both coming in halfway into the game as game one).
I dont want him to fail, but I dont want to waste time either. It doesnt take long for the guys who are going to stick to make their impression - not saying a season long of All Pro caliber play, but lets see some WOW flashes. Lets do more than simple slants for TDs. Lets celebrate MORE than routine plays. Lets try to look laterally above the stats and ask ourselves if this guy is for real. Davis Mills to me is the same as Savage, Mallet, Hoyer, Yates, Keenum, Weeden, ETC ETC. Game managers who are just keeping the seat warm for the next real QB. "I hope I'm wrong" Mills has 2 more games to make his mark and give fans a reason to be optimistic otherwise he'll go back to being Tyrod Taylors backup for a few years or worse the team will find a true blue chip QB and Mills like the other thread title said will "be out of the league in two years".
