If it was a sure DP, then it was the right thing to do. But no way was that going to be a DP unless Meyers falls down running to first.
He didn’t go on contact. He hesitated which allowed plenty of time for the relay to go home instead of first. if he goes on contact and the third baseman attempts to throw him out rather than go for the DP (not an easy throw), there are still two men on with one out.
