How does this change our drone strike policies and the decision making processes and cost/benefit analysis that is done before launching a strike? Expressing some sadness while hoping everyone forgets it by the next news cycle isn’t enough. Offering some financial compensation to the grieving family members isn’t enough.

 

The main guy targeted was an aid worker, according to the NYT reporting. It’s quite possible a translator was in the group.

That said, Lara Logan doesn’t appear to me to be a reliable source of information anymore.

 

It's politically convenient to care now. None of these people have an ounce of integrity or shame. They're all whores with no actual beliefs or conviction other than "my team good their team bad". ****ing stupid.

This largely represents the idiocrasy of American foreign policy. We have completely strayed from the intervention policies set back 50 years ago. Republicans and the media have been mocking the withdrawl that has largely been very successful. The Biden administration completely fumbled what would be considered a win, even with the suicide attacks.

So either the Biden administration were pawns like the Bush administration, falling for what is now obvious bad intel from the Taliban. If the Taliban didn't provide the intel, then it shows the Biden administration is just as completely clueless as every other administration, not learning a damn thing over the last 2 decades.

This has pushed me from the "at least he isn't Trump" camp firmly back into "all politicians are clueless cucks" camp. There is nothing admirable coming from the national side of politics. Im starting to feel like some of these third world nations when it comes to politicians. The corruption is so deep we are brainwashed into believing we are making a choice at the voting booth.

For the record, differences can be made at the local and state levels.

 

Yeah, I know she went to fox news. She seems to be quite knowledgeable with Afghanistan though. Not sure if she has an agenda.

 

So who is going to investigate the pentagon to figure out how the mistake was made?

I imagine we’ve had plenty of drone strikes totally miss plenty of targets and kill civilians over the last 12 years.

It’s tragic but it’s endemic to the type of war we’re trying to fight.

I don’t expect a 100% success rate regarding targeting and intelligence. That seems unreasonable.

here is the thing for too long. We allow our military to operate in a complete black box with zero oversight. We have no idea how often and many of these “mistakes” are made, by who, and under what criteria are the decisions made. I want the military to keep full statistic and make it publicly available. I want serious non gov civilian oversights. I’m usually patient and sit back and wait for the full story. I want heads roll for this. It’s just not acceptable.
