I know its a different game but geez he showed a lot of heart for us in the Olympics. Totally agree when healthy Exum can be a real player. Stoked t we are giving him another shot at it
Interesting contract Stone is giving out. Confused by it. I thought Exum was out of here, but whatever.
Great to see lots of fellow Aussie Rockets fans on here. I watched all the Aussie Olympics games and he looked great. Can penetrate off the dribble, defended well and shot (limited) spot up 3s well. Still looked like he was going to get injured on every drive though… Talent is there to be a good NBA role player if he can stay healthy. 6’6 with 6’9 wingspan so good size. He can be a good guard and wing defender and give you some playmaking as well. He can guard the quick small guards who have smoked the Rockets in recent years. On this contract there is no risk for the Rockets. Will be like an non-guaranteed player if injuries continue but hopefully he stays healthy and give us good value on the court. Also he seems like a top bloke so fits in with the team culture well.
Nice post mate and I agree! These are the sort of moves that make sense for Stone to take. I started to write gamble, but its a non-guaranteed deal, I mean you have the flexibility to move on if it doesn't work. Dante brings something that KPJ and DJ aren't a defensive presence to the 1 position. He'll also be good for making them better in practice and helping all of the young guys play harder on defense. Think about the intensity and challenge we'll have in Camp with Nwaba, Theis, Tate, Gordon and now Exum playing defense against the young guys. I hope Dante can stay healthy this year.
Our point guard play (outside the growing pains of Josh Christopher) during the summer league left a lot to be desired. We didn't seem to have a veteran guard that could bring the ball up and get others involved. The Olympic experience showed that Dante Exum can take on that role. Happy to see him get a shot.
KPJ is our PG. Exum and Augustine are backups for now. Exum could be a starter in the league if he turned his injury history around. Augustine is not amazing at all, but a very good backup.

Yep. Happy we resigned him, although wouldn't be surprised if he gets injured again. But man, hope I'm wrong. I got nervous on every drive he took for us during the Olympics. He ended up on his ass at least 75% of his drives. I was also surprised by his shooting making a decent % from 3. Fingers crossed !
