If they cut him, they still owe him. He has a lot of guaranteed money on the table.

Why would they do that when they can just freeze his contract?

What provision of the CBA allows them to freeze his contract?

What if Watson doesn’t report all season?

If Watson sits out the entire season, his contract would essentially freeze and he obviously would not be paid for the season.

Watson signed a four-year, $156 million contract extension in September that keeps him under contract through the 2025 season. The Texans could also use three (very expensive) franchise tags on Watson after the 2025 season that would keep him in Houston through 2028.

In the unlikely event Watson chooses to retire over playing another snap for the Texans, Houston can collect $21.6 million, according to Schefter.

Can he un-retire and play for another team?

Yes, Watson can come out of retirement, but his contract would freeze and the Texans would still hold his rights because contracts are counted in seasons accrued, not in years.

If, for example, Watson retired for the 2021 and 2022 seasons and then wanted to come back in 2023, he would still be under contract with the Texans for the next five seasons.

That's if Watson is the one choosing to sit out. No where has anyone reported that Watson is willing to sit out the season.

They demand he plays. He refuses they sit him for conduct detrimental. Cal wouldn’t have the balls to do it though.

It would be really bold if Cal did that. He'd be dealing with a circus show every week though.

You really think he'd give up $10,000,000+?

Doubtful but I’d like to see him blink. Cal doesn’t want a Harden situation though it’s not the Texans way.

With the potential for lawsuits, I don't see him throwing away a guaranteed $10+ million.

If the accusations never existed, I could see him holding out to force the Texans to trade him, but he has no leverage at this point.

Zero chance that happens until there's no possibility of criminal charges.

I’ve been saying it all week. Texans win today, take the underdog. Team full of old salty vets that haven’t had a chance to break down yet this season against a rookie about starting his first ever NFL game? I like those odds. Now, they might not win another game all year, but this one feels good to me.

If the Texans told Watson to play, he'd play.

Freezing his contact isn't possible and don't happen.

It’s mock draft time for sure.
