irrelevant nonsense What ring does Stone have? Oh wait… all Stone has done so far is oversee 1 of the worst seasons in franchise history and then draft some young players who have yet to play an NBA game…season was so bad half the dudes running their mouth on here these days barely watched the team play Stone has zero on-court success to speak of, and until he does, he can not be compared to Morey…he does not have the longevity or even a hint of success yet try again
Pffft. Stone has yet even got us to playoffs yet. The rookies he got us sure do look promising, but until we get the results, kinda weird to b crowning that Stone is better than Morey. Morey never got the chance to rebuild but he got us to western finals, that should be the bar Stone has to beat.
You can tell that Rafael Stone is more respected by other GMs and can trade more easily. Daryl Morey is just annoying, and always overpays and gets rid of players and attaches a 1st Rd pick to get rid of the player. Jeremy Lin and 1st Rd pick to Lakers to dump $15 million. Plus Les Alexander was a terrible Owner, the only good move was trading for Clyde Drexler.
Morey enjoyment of undersized bigs that played at the same pace as traditional size bigs OR three point shooting team with no shooters. Few 2 way plays but played the specialist all game then wondering what happened. Overpaid on every extension, less Capela and House which drug on way to long. Good times.
Playoffs? Stone has yet to get us past the 2nd worst team in the league. Don't be surprised if Tilman pushes for another attempt at the 1st pick for 2022
Things rarely go as planned. A GM who can adapt to circumstances an dynamic situations is better than one who cant.
I havent seen Stone's finished product - so im gonna reserve judgement on him... Morey is one of the best - but his people skills leave much to be desired imo... I believe this was most evident regarding the whole Melo/Bzdelik fiasco... Idc what anyone says - imo Bzdelik left bc he wasnt gonna work w Melo again and Melo was kicked to the curb to entice Bzdelik to return... that whole ordeal shouldnt have happened... The House situation was a mess... Hard-on was coddled endlessly with no accountability... D12 was wasted in the end bc of promoting/placating Harden's megalomania.... and sometimes his hubris gets the better of him - like that whole Nene contract that blew up on our faces... Morey is a great numbers guy... theres nobody i'd rather have juggling my cap space... but you have to pair him with a strong coach (not weenie MDA) that is more in tune with the players and chemistry to avoid some missteps... imo...
No opinion on stone, too soon. Did you just now realize what a tank job is and that It’s the best course of action for a franchise with no immediate future? Lol
Did u just now realize that 1 year of tanking isn’t a body of work that can be compared to someone like Morey? Lol
Except that I never made that statement, in fact if you read the first sentence of my post you’ll see what I say verbatim In regards to comparisons between the two.
You’re making some assumptions here, I don’t put Morey on a pedestal. I didn’t say anything about Morey, I’m not even talking about him, only talking about Stone. And no, you don’t have to wait until you win a ring to be successful, but you have to see the players succeed and play well in the nba first. The goal is to get good players and build a good team that can win a lot of games and hopefully win a championship. You can’t tell me Stone has done a good job yet until I see how these guys do in the nba. If all these draft picks work out then we will see it pretty quickly, but I’m going to wait until I see it before I say that Stone is a good GM. Again, it is very possible that Sengun jaygup and Garuba are all out of the league in 1-2 years, KPJ might never put it together, Green could be a bust, and Mobley could be a superstar. Then how would you feel about Stone?
I wouldn’t say they’ve achieved nothing, they’ve built a pretty good team that has made some good playoff runs. No ring obviously but a serious contender for multiple years is still an accomplishment from the front office and a fun team to be a fan of. Certainly better than a team like Sacramento.
Being lucky is necessary for success. It's what a GM does when luck appears that determines whether he is good. Harden being available was luck. But Morey pounced on it. Getting the #2 pick and two other picks in a deep draft was luck. But Stone made the most out of the draft (including trading two future picks for a very good one). But judging a GM is not just about one year, just like judging about a player is not just about one game. You have to look at the whole body of work. Apart from the Harden trade, Morey's moves were IMO pretty even. He made some brilliant ones and some stupid ones. I think he did better in the earlier part of his career, probably because other teams had caught up with the advantage of using analytics. That's too bad because we needed him to do well during Harden's prime. Stone has no body of work to speak of yet. So let's reserve our judgment for now.
This is such a pointless thread. People want the bitter aftertaste of a Morey/Harden-Rockets divorce out of their mouths so badly, that they immediately want to compare 13 years of a GM's tenure to 1 year of the succeeding GM's tenure. Way. Too. Soon. To. Tell.
What an odd example. Throughout the second half of Morey's tenure, the Rockets were always championship contenders. Moving players allows cap space to be freed, to sign players that can win now, instead of waiting for them to develop. Those picks he attached to get rid of players were always going to be low first rounders that most likely wouldn't have seen playing time on a championship contending team. Yes, Morey made mistakes. But he rectified most of his mistakes while still keeping the Rockets competitive. Something many (if not most) GMs can't do.
I don’t know how frequently things go over your head, perhaps more in depth comprehension of those you quote and get quoted by is your best course. Trust me, by how much and what you post.. time is not something you’re wanting for brother.
