I'm thinking the bet will be over (in my favor) Sunday afternoon.

    Not bad Nick, not bad.

Roster wise our CBs are now likely league worst.

Pretty incredible that a team who will rotate Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill at QB can be in win now mode while we are betting whether we win a single game.

I know when I first heard about the trade, my first thought was to go and check who Charley Casserly selected in the 3rd round of his drafts with the Texans before forming my opinion.

You can see that there is a plan. Draft capital , yes …let’s get 5 first round picks while we are at it if need be

Draft is basically 52/48 crap shot according to a guy I talked with who worked for the Browns. It's crazy in this day and age teams can't do better with their picks, but the wild card is the human element. It's easy to measure height/weight/speed/strength, but much tougher to understand drive, attitude, heart and desire. If someone could build an algorithm for the latter they will become very, very rich.

I thought a 3rd and 6th would be a great value for Roby and depending on the protections that's essentially what Cas got. I would expect more of these trades as we suffer through a rebuilding year and other teams call about pieces that can add to their contending team. Embrace the tank, we need to add draft capital for the next 3 years.

I'm not optimistic we find a QB in 2022, but adding to our picks in later years helps increase the capital we need to make a move.

Well, that's kind of a dumb thing to say.

Still room to get worse. Can't risk any wins this year.

Hopefully things will be different with Caserio running the team.

If not I hope Caserio packages a 3rd and a 4th and moves up into the 2nd.

    Ingram for a 3rd or a 4th and a 6th to the Ravens.

I hope the 3rd is NO's own pick in the 2022 draft.
They also have a compensatory pick, awarded when the Falcons hired their pro scouting director Terry Fontenot.
That would be at the end of the round after all others.

I disagree that the draft is a crapshoot.
There are teams that consistently draft well.
The Ravens are one, the Steelers are another.
The Steelers had a good 2020 draft and are looking at possibly starting their 1st 4 picks from this past draft.
It's not always about measurables, but watching tape, grading technique plus coaching received and potential room for growth.
We will see how good Caserio is at drafting soon enough.

I do agree that when it comes to the QB position, I don't think anyone has figured out a surefire way to tell if a player will thrive at the NFL level.

Solid trade. I found Caserio's intro press conference grating and uninspiring, but I've been impressed so far. Batting solid singles, which is an order of magnitude better than the disastrous stuff happening under BOB

Yeah but have you seen our SECOND ROUNDERS!!! :(
    It's not exactly a "Murderer's Row" either!:D

Our past 10 years of 2nd rounders.

    ----------------------------
2019 - Max Scharping, Lonnie Johnson Jr.

    2017 - Zach Cunningham

    2016 - Nick Martin

    2015 - Benardrick McKinney

    2014 - Xavier Su'a-Filo

    2013 - D.J. Swearinger

    2011 - Brooks Reed

    2010 - Ben Tate
    ------------------------

With the added positional (round) advantage I would say it's about a coin-flip as to which has been the most underwhelming!
But it really makes not that much of a difference because if you can't hit on anything other than your 1st 2 picks you will NEVER be able to sustain a upper echelon roster long term.

This franchise feels like it has always been top-heavy. The stars Foster, Watt, Brown, Andre carried a lot of the weight early in the last decade and outside of 2011 they have never talent and depth the way the Chiefs, Bucs, Cowboys, Titans, Bills do right now.

Our entire franchise draft history outside of the 1st round is probably a less than 10% success rate. Of course that’s probably similar to everyone else.

Bingo, there are very few franchises that excel in mid to late rounds.
