Just as a quick correction, the 'heart beat' happens approximately 6 weeks in gestational age which starts counting from the first day of the last menstrual cycle. Ovulation happens around 2-3 weeks 'gestational age'. So the law actually makes abortion illegal about 3-4 weeks after ovulation/insemination or about 2 weeks after missing period IF the woman is very regular. There is a very very small window (1-2 weeks) of testing positive for pregnancy and abortion being illegal with the new law.
I am interested in the results For all the b!tching and Moaning about the Abortion bill..... WHAT YA GONNA DO ABOUT IT?!?!??!?!?! I have no real opinion on it. . . . and I am prolife That said. . . . The horrible shitty republican stuff done has not been enough for the Demos to gett of their @sses and do something about it I doubt this will be enough They will growl . .they will scream . . .they will sit on their @sses while Hot Wheels and Dan 'SpongeBob's best friend" Patrick get reelected Until they can come with some real Political momentum or something .. . this is all wind and no . . .that does not mean rolling Beto out for governor or some other maddness Rocket River
Probably donate to a reproductive rights group, whoever is running for governor, and vote. If I'm able to catch a peaceful protest, I'd definitely like to be part of that as well. Not sure if writing to my representative would help since they are democrat (does this ever help for these kinds of obvious partisan situations)?
I understand. . . an I appluad your effort but mainly this is directed toward the Democratic Party They have been a sh!tshow my whole f*cking life Their incompetence boarders on complicity I legit think they want what the Republicans want.. but act like they don't just to give us the illusion of Choice Rocket River
Same here. Pro life. But unlike the 'conservatives' I don't go overreaching on what my neighbors are doing or not doing. That's KGBish. I agree with you. If these dems can't find their inner Mitch Mcconnell and throw some holy water on these spawns after everything they're doing, they never will. 1 thing I'd do, I'd get these Mayors of blue cities, so basically the important big cities that provide all the cashmoney, to give the middle finger by defying the governor again. Provide a safe haven. What are they going to do? Not give Houston money when a biblical flood wipes us out again? They already do that.
To be fair (not speaking on the abortion bill since this was passed earlier), for the voting bill, Democrats actually left town for a while. Even when the legislature and Abbott took away the salaries of workers, Democrats stayed strong and stayed out of Texas. I thought that was a pretty strong move. I would argue that one strong move that could be done federally is do away with the filibuster, but when Republicans get a majority, it would eventually bite them in the ass, would that be something you would support? That would be a Mitch McConnell sort of move. Or maybe, they should pass something through reconciliation that does not apply to that sort of bill, but they should ignore the Parliamentarian anyways, and do it. Would this be the kind of move you are looking for?
Republican hypocrisy is too easy a target. “Don’t like guns? Don’t own one! Don’t like abortions? Don’t let her have one!”
Top news article today the Pope, Archbishop Welby and Patriarch Bartholomew calling upon their 1.6 billion members to embrace the climate change crisis and “make meaningful sacrifices for the sake of the earth which God has given us.” So is climate change still junk science while religion is sacred even if religion acknowledges it? So confused…
https://www.wsj.com/articles/portla...bortion-law-11631134042?mod=opinion_lead_pos2 Portlandia vs. Texas Welcome back to life under the Articles of Confederation. By The Editorial Board Sept. 8, 2021 6:39 pm ET The Supreme Court this year declined to hear Texas’s challenge to a California ban on state-funded travel to the Lone Star State. Now Portland’s progressive City Council is escalating the interstate warfare by seeking to ban doing business with Texas in retaliation for its abortion law. Last week Mayor Ted Wheeler proposed a resolution that would forbid the city from purchasing goods and services from Texas until the state withdraws its law or it is overturned in court. The City Council was set to vote on the ban on Wednesday but delayed a vote to next week to allow more time for review. The resolution is almost certainly unconstitutional because it directly discriminates against trade with other states, which is prohibited under the Commerce Clause. Portland bought an estimated $34 million in goods and services from the Lone Star State between June 2020 and June 2021, and the ban would punish any business located in Texas with a Portland contract. The High Court this spring declined to hear Texas’s challenge to a California ban on state-funded travel to states that offend its progressive values. Texas landed on the travel-ban list because it allows religious nonprofits to refuse to place foster children with same-sex couples. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas argued in dissent that the Court should have exercised its original jurisdiction to hear the case. Some Justices may be reluctant to intervene in an interstate political brawl. But after the Court’s abdication, California added five more states to its travel ban because they proposed legislation to forbid transgender females from competing in girls’ sports, among other things. Portland’s ban is broader in barring government commerce with any business in Texas. Texas businesses would have legal standing to sue in federal court if they lose a contract. There will be more of these interstate commercial fights as polarization and geographic segregation by politics increase. Sooner rather than later, the High Court will have to stop this return to the Articles of Confederation. Appeared in the September 9, 2021, print edition.
Not with this Court. 5 of the members wouldn't mind returning to that time and allowing States to do whatever, including stripping the federal government of protecting individual rights.
What is it you think Democrats can do about it? They can run on it in the next election and maybe persuade some voters. But if voters want this abortion bill, Dems can't stop it. To channel my RR, they only walked out when their own re-election chances were threatened. They didn't walk out on the abortion bill, which was a hell of a lot more important than the voting bill. Sure, it'd be a strong move, but it's moot. Manchin isn't willing to go along. And before we say Manchin is why Dems are such a shitshow, let's remember that West Virginia wouldn't have elected him at all if he was so willing. Democrats are holding control of US Congress by their fingernails.
