Chas Mccormick is 26,Taylor Jones is 27 I think the Astros need to trade them for younger players to clear some room.
I was very surprised also when he was called up and checked his age. At least Jake Meyers is in same Age Range as the Core Star Players on the Astros.
To be fair, we screwed Springer on his call up so Springer didn't get as much playing time before 24 years of age. We literally called him up at 24. If you compare their first 4 seasons in the MLB it's 16.3 to 6 WAR with the advantage to Springer. Springer was a stud for us. I hope Kyle continues to play well but he's not Springer yet.
Why 4 seasons? Tucker hasn’t had 4 full seasons. I love Springer, Tucker has a chance to be better. Still has to go out and do it though
So far through his 842 PA he has a higher OPS than Springer did to that point. I should add, that Springer had a .661 OPS in his first 79 postseason PA before he went nuclear in the WS. I agree it's not fair to compare age results given Springer came up later, but in terms of actual PA he's been every bit as good as Springer was. Dunno what the future holds, but since his 2nd call up in 2019 Tucker has been really damn good for us.
If you compare any individual season other than Springer's rookie season, Springer comes up ahead. Better batter and defender. Again, I'm not saying Tucker isn't a stud and it was a mistake to let Springer go. I'm just saying Springer has shown to be a better player. Springer is one of the best center fielders in the MLB not named Trout.
I like Springer, he’s a stud. This is literally Tuckers first full season in the big leagues and is putting up numbers similar to Springers best season.
By what standard? Springer had an .824 OPS in his first 5 seasons. Tucker currently has a career .831 OPS How exactly is that "better every season". The only clear advantage Springer has to this point is that his first full season wasn't during a pandemic.
Springer was a baseball player before he was in majors. Up to Tucker's current age, Tucker has had the better career. On a per plate appearance basis, Springer has a slight WAR/PA basis, but Springer's career is skewed towards his peak years. If Tucker has a healthy career through age 30, he will likely produce more WAR than Springer by age 30. I do think it will be tough for Tucker to match Springer's best 2 seasons.
My original comment about this was in response to a WAR comparison at this age. My point was that Springer was a little screwed over on his call up and that Tucker hasn't matched Springer yet. I'm not saying he won't, but Springer is considered one of the best center fielders in baseball. Enough to warrant his crazy contract even at his age. If Tucker gets to Springer's value, we will have hit jackpot AGAIN. I'll be super happy if he does and I think he has a chance, but I'm not counting on it.
You are neglecting that Tucker got screwed over by a pandemic and by the Astros having a better team when he came up. I don't know if Tucker can match Springer's peak, but Tucker being in the majors at the same age Springer was drafted likely will give Tucker the better career if he stays healthy and one cares more about total WAR than peak WAR.
I LOVE Tucker. I'm just not penciling him as one of the best outfielders in the game yet. One that is top 5 in career post season homeruns. I'm more of a wait and see on him. Tucker hasn't done anything historical YET like Alavarez has to justify that prediction.
I'm fine with the wait and see on the career as it isn't easy matching Springer's peak. Up to age 24 season, it is clear that Tucker was better to that point as Tucker's playing time was much more adversely impacted than Springer's.
