Doesn't get enough credit for what he did. But he pitched his ass off! He could have lasted the 5th I think.also. But you go into a hostile game and lay down 4.1 quality innings, and it's amazing.
I'd appreciate his pitching better going forward. Like Peacock, they entered the playoffs on a roll, then the roll slowed. They weren't bad, but we'll need better going forward.
That was huge and awesome. He struggled a bit with his fast ball but he was good enough. Getting that out of his system should calm him down for his next outing and I expect that he'll do better. I'd like to see him in game 3.
With McHugh presumably on the ALCS roster we'll be able to go tandem in both Games 3/4. We're set up perfectly in a 7 game series.
Charlie just signed a 20 million dollar extension with the Braves. We should have kept him with a qualifying offer. Probably would had 2 more world series titles if we had.
He's not the lock down Ace that we're missing. We're forever grateful for Morton closing out game 7 but history seems to have misremembered the rest of Morton's playoff history with the Astros and even TB. Outside of 7 vs. the Dodgers and the way he pitched against the Astros last year, he's been rather average to just bad in the postseason. He had a 4.74 regular season ERA last year (Odorizzi has a 4.32 this year) and he has a 3.47 ERA this year which would be the 5th best ERA amongst our starters; Grienke would be 6th at 3.66.
He has a 3.38 ERA (with supporting peripherals) in 61 1/3 innings in the postseason. 3.47 is still very good for 2021 regardless of how he compares to other very good starters.
Morton has been outstanding in the playoffs. Even game 3 against the Yankees he was outstanding and ran into horrible luck with bloopers.
He does have a good Postseason ERA so saying he's been bad is harsh but he did have some bad moments with the Astros. The prior poster said we'd probably have 2 more WS with Morton but he was on the Astros in 2018 and after the Astros started that postseason with 4 straight wins Morton was on the mound for game 2 at Boston. He was only able to go 2.1 innings that game and the Astros went on to lose 4 straight.
He literally kicked our butt last season. So we would have been in the WS if he were playing for us versus Tampa Bay. In 2019, he would have came played in game 7 and taken us home. Imagine Cole, Verlander, Greinke, and Morton as your starters against the Nationals. Urquidy would have been a reliever.
I suppose we can say he would have have had the exact same success pitching for us versus against us. He went on to have a terrible world series start against the Dodgers after handling the Astros; 4.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER.
I can't say Astros would have won 2 additional WS, but 2019 WS was very close. Morton would not have been a punk about coming in a Game 7 in the WS. Astros in 2020 were basically stopped by Morton in the postseason. Morton has been mostly good in the postseason.
We’d have won every WS since because he’s CFM and when he’s here magic happens, I don’t need stats to prove otherwise. We’re Gucci tho bc the 2021 team is gonna bring it home
This CFM was the biggest reason the Stros have rings on their fingers. I'm happy CFM has done well after he moved on from the Stros. CFM should never have to buy a beer in Houston.
