There was a story I read a year and a half ago in which an unnamed pitcher was telling about how he paid Joe West to squeeze the zone in the late innings on the last day of a series (so as to leave town a little earlier). He was laughing about what he had gotten away with, but West and others were laughing at the pitcher for paying West to do what he was going to do anyway.
