Crime in Chicago is older than any of us.

Fwiw, the city I spend most of my time in has a higher murder rate per capita and I've never felt unsafe.

Greek district in Chicago is awesome. I love, love Mediterranean food, all kinds.

What are your favorite spots in Houston/Austin?

 

I have family there and it's pretty safe outside of some of the black communities. The exodus of people are from those communities. Chicago is pretty segregated so if you don't live in those areas you are in no more danger than most cities.

 

Smashing Pumpkins are from Chicago. What bands are from Katy? I'd rather die standing than live on my knees.

 

As depressing as this sounds Chicago's crime problem is isolated to specific neighborhoods.

That doesn't excuse the horrible conditions a certain population demo in the city goes through but the narrative that the entirety of Chicago is unsafe is just untrue.

Chicago metro has its versions of Katy and Sugar Land.

 

Anecdotes don't really say much in this case. You can find absurd murders outside of the most dangerous areas of Houston occasionally also. I'm sure there are some crazy murders that happened in Katy's history.
