Subtitle of the article: The Afghan Air Force reportedly had 167 operational aircraft, including 33 Black Hawk attack helicopters, before the Taliban took over.

Everything we gave to the Afghan military over the last 20 years now belong to the victor.

This is why no president before dare to be the loser.

Use your brain dofus. ISIS will never get a better chance to kill us troops then it did at the airport. If there was sincere 2500 ISIS we would have had more one attack at the airport. You'd see multiple a day. It's just funny how people don't think independently

Yes before the ISIS attack that killed 13 and when failed missles tried striking us yesterday. Let Turkish forces handle security and use the billions you have in Afghan assets to assecure safe passage. It's as if people want more endless war

No but if they didn’t get to the airport by now obviously that’s because the airport is a non viable option for them and the US will have to get them out through an Underground Railroad type of system.

My guess is Pakistan will be bartering with the US over the next few months for getting people out.

I think the right is trying really way too hard on this one. To the point where it seems too desperate to land a blow on Biden.

After the terrorist explosion would you be sending your mom and sister to the airport to suffer in a crowd waiting for a suicide bomber to come in the crowd or would you work with one of the dozens of ex military groups working overtime to get you to a border crossing in Pakistan where they’ve already arranged for you to cross?

You are just asking for the unreasonable that no administration would ever do. We were never going to disarm the army we built and funded for the past 20 years before we left.

Ya it's pretty absurd. These arm chair advisors are now saying in hindsight we should have disarmed the ANA before we left. Like WTF?

Seriously these people are unhinged in trying to push a narrative.

Biden will continue to be pressed on this until every American who wants to leave is able to leave. This interview was on August 18. The threat level calculus changed after the ISIS attack. Keeping troops there past August 31 wasn't going to make it any more safe to extract them. You'd have to go back to whether the US should have taken control of Kabul with a massive influx of more troops and then try to extract the citizens. But easier said than done.

in the first instance you imply ISIS is not really a threat, yet in the second you suggest an ISIS attack changed everything.

Doesn't matter this was a good move by the USA - the equipment we left is inconsequential - small potatoes......

Sorry to see what the Taliban is doing to it's own people - but they had their chance to fight back and chose to lay down their weapons. It is up to them to fix their own country, we are still waiting on Iran to fix theirs and we ****ed that up in the 50s.

No more wars for the BILLIONAIRE class, we need to shrink the military and not give the poor and ignorant people in our country as the only option to go to college - the GI Bill, we need a civil service equivalent.

Time to grow up as a country and stand down from WW2.

Maybe it’s that ISIS is not a threat to invade the homeland, kill Christians, and overthrow the certification of our elections to install an unelected autocrat, but they are a threat to suicide bomb US Marines at the Kabul airport.

    Geez… crazy how context matters.

(yes they can be a threat in some ways and a non threat in others)

Yes leave I’m for that. Trump wanted to leave too but There are also reports Biden was concerned about the weaponry left. I get not disarming the ANA but there should have been intelligence reports as a possibility, there should have been intelligence on the airport terror act. 13 great people died for no good reason and there was ill equipped foresight,…Americans likely still stranded after a deadline. How did our intelligence fail so badly? How did we not see this as a distinct possibility? Who should answer for this failure of an exit regardless of whether it was right, it was done so so wrong.

Turks pulled out after the first terror attack. Said they wouldn't man the airport if they couldn't have their own security perimeter. Taliban is taking over, and will run, the airport.

What else does the right have? After supporting trump the past four years, defending the insurrection, after fighting vaccinations and mask wearing, and then blaming Delta on immigrants from Mexico... they need something. Anything. Desperation has set in...

Curious, what would you define as 'consequential'. An aircraft carrier?

Nobody, or at least almost nobody, is saying we shouldn't have left. Almost EVERYBODY is saying we shouldn't have done in such a mismanaged fashion.

With you on no more wars for the billionaire class. You need to talk a long hard look at China, though, and think about global resources and what will happen as those start to run out, before you advocate for too much shrinking the military. At the very least, we MUST maintain a CLEAR technological advantage. A very strong navy too. Not to fight that next war...to keep it from happening.

We stood down from WWII decades ago. Wanted nothing to do with another war. World events then intervened. remember Korea?

Wasn't it? This is a HUGE presumption, which you need to provide more support for. Why do you think it wasn't?
