Yeah this was before we had suicidal bombing that kill 13. You do know there's Turkish forces at the airport and other foreign nations right? Turkey is running the airport.. Why would you want to keep US forces at harms way if you can work through back channels. We've frozen billions of their assets which they need. People need to accept taliban are the Afghan government.

Hostages? You do know taliban are the government and Turkish forces (our nato partner so if one of them die we have ability to use force) control the airport. There's other foreign forces too at the airport

How are they being left behind when we have NATO troops at the airport? Why do people want American troops the one in danger. Why not use another country for once

Waiting to see how the post departure evacuation of Americans and Afghans works out. This was a big mess, but at the same time the entire operation seemed really difficult and I don't understand all the complicating factors that were involved. It's easy to point out all the bad things that have taken place (and it's important to do so), but harder (while just as important) to consider the bad consequences of alternative approaches. It seems likely that there simply was no clean way of extracting ourselves from this country.

With regards to US military equipment now in Taliban's hands, how much of that is stuff that was in the possession of Afghan allies, how much of it was stuff we intended our Afghan allies to use, and how much was stuff we just left behind because we couldn't be bothered to take it with us?

The Taliban is seemingly parading their new air force in the skies over Afghanistan, with video online purporting to show US-made Black Hawk helicopters flying over the streets of Kandahar.

The Taliban, by some estimates, has more Black Hawk helicopters than 85 per cent of the world after the US abandoned $85bn worth of military equipment.

167 operational sophisticated aircraft folks. … zero plan, zero foresight

Remains to be seen. Publicly, the Taliban are saying that they will permit Americans and any Afghans with travel permission from US to leave the country once the airport opens up. Let's see if the actions match the words.

It's not a comfortable position to have to depend on the Taliban being true to their word.

2000 hard-core isis fights = our narrative for more drone strikes which people are too brainwashed to think. If there was "2000" hard-core isis fighters they would have attacked the airport together and could've had the greatest military victory as our troops were so vulnerable. It's propaganda that people lkke you eat up.

Would have been nice to get everyone out but that wasn’t going to happen and we knew about for some time now.

This is from today but not exactly new. Same message was communicated for at least a week. Although there is no longer a physical diplomatic presence I’m sure there must be one still in place.

    https://www.npr.org/2021/08/30/1032367184/rockets-kabul-airport-deadline-us-troops-bomb

“Despite the end of military presence, McKenzie echoed other administration officials who have emphasized in recent days that diplomatic efforts to get more Americans and American allies out of Afghanistan will continue. U.S. officials have said Taliban forces, who now control Afghanistan's borders and air space, have been told that anyone who wants to leave should be able to do so peacefully.”
