I had to go all the way back to 2018 to find a WS champion with worse offensive catchers than us.

A blandly stated, "Game 6." shuts any Arlington fan up immediately.

Joey Bats ridiculous bat flip is right up there. Bleeding Nolan rounds out the top 5.

that was a platoon situation, they were both crappy hitters though.

Inevitably somebody always has to complain about the light-hitting whoever it is…

Certainly with this lineup at full strength, they can easily withstand whatever offense they get (or don’t get) from Maldy with the benefit of how well he works with this staff.

If Lee is ready to step into that role seamlessly, they won’t hold him back. But there’s a **** ton more to being a MLB catcher for a contender other than hitting and throwing people out.

    Nick, captain obvious.

I have not complained about Maldy (this was pointed out once already, a few posts up. please read the full conversation) I Simply asked if we had ever had a full time catcher with such a low batting average. Thats it.

Really is a sign that things are going well if this is all we have to talk about this morning.

This. When the Astros signed their catchers, they did not know if Lee would be ready by the start of 2022. Right now, I'm doubtful they would start Lee OD 2022. If Lee is ready to take the reins in mid-2022, it probably is a good idea to have 2 cheap catchers until then.

My attention has been diverted by IDA. The Western edge looks to stay just East of the border. But it's too close for comfort after Laura and Delta.

They dont want to answer this question.

Fact is while there's alot more to catching than hitting and throwing people out, you cant have a full time catcher hitting below the Mendoza line and win a WS. I mean if either one of Castro or Maldy was hitting .225, .230 that would be acceptable. But that would take a 50 point increase in BA.

You get what you pay for and the Stros are now stuck with these below the Mendoza line catchers for next year too.

and I finally just looked it up. The answer is no. The Astros have never had a full time catcher with a batting average as low as Maldy.

*this is not a complaint about Maldy. So please no more stupid posts about what a catcher does.

upload_2021-8-29_11-8-43.png Greinke stats, he’s not done, I do trust Framber, Garcia and McCullers more but Greinke is not done.

But if Machete can pull that average up 4 points by season's end...

As batting average is all you care about, which GM has signed the top 2 AL players in batting average this year?

Can’t have an above average hitter at every position. There was a point before yesterday’s game that Altuve had the second worst batting average in the starting lineup. We are a lucky fan base.
