This is why I absolutely hate the man on 2nd rule in extras. A pitcher like Stanek is used to coming up in a CLEAN inning without anyone on base. Instead he has to start off the inning out of the stretch. It can make a huge difference.

 

Would Lance have made it? He is the fastest pitcher in the staff and clearly bothered that he was given the stop sign. Oh well, thanks umps.

 

At least we saved Javier for the next series.

With a fast runner any hit will score the guy on 2nd and that could win the game for them. With the guy on first they have to work harder to get the runner home.
