Agreed But basically your post for us layman is saying "people will believe what they want to believe" That's why people are so divisive now . One side swears they are right..but both sides are reading the same news but come to complete opposite opinions I am anti vaxxer and I wish the vaxxers would understand where I'm coming from but they think they can read my mind and Change my mind by beating the same news over and over to me hopeing I change my mind Look, I don't give two shets what the president says.. even if the whole world lets say 6 billion dropped dead tomorrow from covid I STILL would not get vaccinated and in fact I'd be laughing cuz I'd be the only one left standing saying "haha told u so" I understand that some antivaxxers are scared then in turn get sick and are in the hospital ..that's on them.. Not my fault I have a badass immune system ...I'll take my chances unvaxxed Back to the thread Signing hurt hurt us lol Need to keep brooks ... Almost certain this was a Bullard pick Hurt does nothing.. waste of a roster spot
Hurt wasnt signed to the team he was signed to a 2 way, the same 2 way offered to Brooks. 2 ways arent part of the roster and they make significantly less than a roster spot. Nwaba signing COULD hurt the Brooks cuz if Brooks gets a deal somewhere we could ahve signed Brooks instead.
I appreciate your optimism. I just think KPJ and KMJ are still too young and inexperienced to contribute to real winning basketball. From what I saw in Summer League, KMJ still has a way to go before he should even get significant minutes in the regular season, though the development of his 3 point shot was encouraging. Hopefully Wood will be healthier this year. I'm really hoping he isn't as fragile and injury prone as I fear he is. Tate is definitely ready. No caveat. But I just don't think that's enough to get us too many more wins. And you are WAY more optimistic about our rookies than I am. I like all of them. It's just very few rookies in NBA history are ready to contribute to winning basketball in year 1. And these kids still have A LOT to prove. Sengun has to prove he can do it at the NBA level. I love his polish. I loved that he was a lot better than advertised defensively in Summer League. But I am still worried he is a little too slow and a little too small to do all of that in the NBA. Garuba is a defensive monster. But right now, anytime he's on the floor he'll be a liability on offense. He really has to get to shooting at least 33% from 3 point range to be able to be on the court consistently. Which leaves Josh Christopher. Obviously I realize he is a future MVP. Obviously I realize he is ready to contribute to winning basketball right now and possibly even putting up an MVP caliber season in year 1. However, I expect stupid Tillman and Silas to relegate him to the G League through most of the season anyway so that's the big problem with him being able to contribute to winning. But hey, if the rooks are so good that we win significantly more games I'll be as excited with anyone. If that's the case, we might not even need another top draft pick because it means ALL of those guys are radically out performing expectations for rookies and we may already have two future superstars.
I am not expecting Wood, Gordon or Wall to be healthy. I just don't think that's what any of those guys do. I expect improvement KPJ/KMJ and Tate. I just don't think it matters. I don't think any of those guys will play like All-Stars next year which means we don't have an All-Star caliber player on our team (unless Wood both stays healthy and improves but I still think Wood is like a third best player on a championship team type guy - not a go to). I also think significant improvement from KMJ doesn't even mean he deserves regular rotation minutes in the NBA. He's that far away. Tate is a really great roleplayer. Really great roleplayers aren't worth much, though, if you don't have stars around them. So unless KPJ breaks out and starts putting up Harden like numbers, I don't expect us to top out at over 25 wins. 30 wins if they go crazy! And that doesn't even mean I am not optimistic about our future. I just think you guys expect instant gratification and this is going to be a process in which will require our patience. The absolute best case scenario is the Hawks in which they really put it together once our young guys are in their 3rd/4th years in the league and are around 22/23 years of age. And I'll say I would LOVE to be wrong. But I don't think I am going to be.
If the Rockets want to win 30-40 games, I have no doubt with health they could. I just don’t think they will, which will result in them playing rooks a ton, perhaps all together, resting vets, having long injury return times, etc. That is my expectation of how this season will go. But that is different than simply not being talented enough to win. Using last year’s win total as a bar to judge the team’s winning ability (rather than willingness) is a mistake. That ignores the fact they had rotten injury luck, massive turnover, a rotating cast of g-league folks not as talented as our current rookies, and most importantly that they were not trying to win for the majority of the season.
It isn't a mistake. You're making it seem like this isn't what happens in any other nba season. Injuries always happen. This year won't be any different. the rookies are what they are. kids who have yet to learn how to win in the nba. That's not happening in their 1st season. There's growing pains and it's a process. They also play in the tough West. And false, these guys were definitely trying to win games. They just weren't good enough to do so. anyone seeing the games and how guys like Silas were just so emotionally distraught/frustrated at points in the season would know they wanted to win games. It doesn't matter what someone calls it.
Correct, I’m making it seem like the Rockets playing more players in a year than any team has ever done in history, something that has happened exactly once in all of time, is something that ‘doesn’t happen every NBA season’. I think you missed the point entirely. The players and the coaches were trying to win games, but the Rockets organization was not. Which is why they built a flawed roster to begin with (Woods as the only ‘big’ with the corpse of Boogie Cousins and SF Bruno Caboclo as his only depth), held players out waaay after they would have been back from injury if the Rockets were trying to win, and plugging all the holes with GLeague fillers instead of real NBA players so there was also insufficent experiance and talent to win. Those were all deliberate decisions made to avoid winning games. If the Rockets want to win games this year, they will not make all of those decisions, and they likely have the talent to win quite a few games. But I don’t think they want to compete for the 8th seed, so I don’t think they will.
Nope. The folks that think the rockets weren’t trying to win games are the ones who still refuse to believe the rockets weren’t bad. When In reality they are. The two just happen to go together, so yeah they were trying to win all around but it wasn’t happening anyway. The roster had players who won plenty prior to harden’s departure. Once he was gone this team would immediately fall off. This next season will be no different. They’ll try to win a lot of games but won’t because they’re still one of the worst teams in the league.
People will believe what they want to believe.... but you want them to read ALL the facts, not just their favorite ones, before they decide which team to join. That's the key difference. When people just post a Youtube link with some snide comment like "get the facts", my analytical brain gets triggered. Just admitting you're an anti-vaxxer (in general?) makes me inclined to argue with you, but I'm sure you have some reason to take that hard of a stance. Perhaps others could open you up but that's not for the GARM. People have lost the ability to map out cohesive arguments. They fall for fallacies like confirmation bias, ad hominem, or argument from authority... really every fallacy in the book. And they do it because it feels good. Dangerous, I say.
I really want to understand how anyone who looks at our team and sees John Wall on it can say to themselves, "That's a good team."
Exactly… and let’s say Hurt stays at Duke all 4 years and isn’t pushed out and leads the team in scoring the next couple seasons… it won’t matter to the NBA, he will be viewed as older, with the same physical limitations in offense and defense… he is what he is, and more college won’t change that. Maybe he falls into a situation where his lack of speed doesn’t matter as much, and he hits enough 3’s to cobble out a career…. But it won’t be with the Rockets because Green, KPJ and Wood aren’t stopping anyone well enough to also cover for Hurt.
Im glad someone put it concisely. Hurt can go play in Europe for a dozen years and the Rockets can use the spot on a player with NBA upside.
People don’t want to hear it or believe it… but Griffin is the best player on Duke if he is actually healthy. He can do so many things and his shooting is underrated… very good defender. Banchero can score and rebound but he doesn’t move all that well laterally and that matters in the NBA of today.
Keep on keeping on! I want an antivaxxer TShirt. Pro Choice, unless it’s about vaccinations. At which point we no longer have a choice. Wonder how many sign up to get the vaccine after that $100 pay out?
One thing you can almost guarantee about Wall is that he is going to miss a lot of games due to injury. If Wall is a negative, then the good news is, he's not going to be in a lot of games.
